Everyone would stand up when Kenny Samson ran forward with the ball, he was something else.

It is unfair IMHO to compare across generations. Here are my players of the decades since I have been watching from 1974:
70’s Peter Taylor
80’s Ian Wright
90’s Dougie Freedman ( although arguably played more in his second spell in 00’s)
00’s AJ
10’s to date Wilf

My first game was 1976 and it's Wilfried Zaha.

You are all forgetting Per Bartrum!

His work rate, ability on the ball, especially in front of goal, was something to behold.

His his all round ineptitude as a footballer makes ‘Teckers’ look World class! 😀😀

Seriously though, given all factors included in previous posts - and I watched ‘Budgie’ in his heyday, the standard of football was not the same then, so for me, our most exciting player has always been ‘Wrighty’ ... just ahead of Cliff Holton... (again I jest &#128512. His two goal coming on as a sub in the Cup Final against Man U were magic.

True but statistics don't tell you everything as if I recall most of his appearances and goals were in the second tier as he broke his leg and missed half of his single season in the top league

Who knows what may have happened, if he didn’t break his leg playing for Italy after earning a recall. We were mid table when that happened, when he came back towards the end of the season we were bottom.

Goldberg took over in January that year, so if we had stayed in the division then things may have been different, who knows?

He only played half a season when we got relegated, and was shipped out in January as we spiralled towards administration.

Top 3 for me.
Zaha
Wright
Lombardo

You can't include Lombardo as great player that he was he was only with Palace for five minutes.

Don Rogers had a greater goal scoring record with us with 28 goals in 70 appearances and almost all of them were a wonder to behold.

Doesn't matter if a player was with us 5 seconds. If we signed Messi and he played only two games but they were against City and Liverpool and he ran the show and scored hatricks in both everyone would agree he was our best ever player.
For the record Lombardo was not with us 5 minutes but for one and three quarter seasons and in my opinion was the best player Palace ever had (certainly in my time of supporting Palace). Best Englishman> Budgie Byrne I imagine.

Its difficult as so many played at different times and memories sometime make things look better than they were.
When I started going it was all Kenny and Vince - and while Kenny was better, Vince was more popular, as I remember. When Vince got the ball if felt like it feels now when Wilf gets it.
You cant deny Ian Wright his place at the top table either, nor Andy Johnson (he must be close to the best strike rate ever for Palace?).
So, from my time of 1978 to date its
1. Wilf
2. Kenny
3. Vince
4. Ian W
5. AJ
But when I started the guys were like a crazy gang, with some hard players full of character - Rashid - Billy Gilbert - Doris - Jim Cannon, and then Mickey Droy. Hard players who fought like lions.

First game in 1977 for me.

Best I have seen is hard as the game has changed a lot over the years.

Best keeper - Nigel Martyn

Best center back - Jim Cannon,
Best full back - Kenny Sansom
Best center midfield - Gerry Francis
Best winger - Wilf
Best forward - Ian Wright

There were loads of alternatives !
