International Women ?

The article below catalogues the wholesale import of Phillipine wives, by viking men, to the Faroe Islands.

What would the neighbours say ?

What would the feminists say ?

This horrible and tragic case with Sarah Everard and social media being awash of thousands of women all with their own personal stories of sexual harassment, stalking, being hassled on the street etc. really does highlight how important it is to listen to women and to educate men to behave better and what everyone can do to help reduce the fear for women being alone in public. No one should live in fear of that.

Unfortunately any man who is capable of committing such a heinous crime, could never be educated

You can't really do that.

Just as you can't really 'educate' women to behave better on neuroticism.

Rather than unrealistic notions of 'education' the far better idea is in creating alternative expressions for natural behaviour that's safer for society.

For example, this is seen by encouraging the naturally aggressive to enter boxing/martial arts or the military, the highly sexed to use p00rn or brothels (which need proper protections).

You work with human nature....you worsen it by demonising or denying it.

Agree with this - my point was more around the 'easier' things we can all do to make women feel safer such as crossing the road if out late at night or keeping your distance, calling out any mates that act like d*cks.

While the sad truth is that these things will always happen to some extent the default position for a lot of women is to fear all men and be on high alert so anything small that we can do to help them, we should.

I think then that you're calling for considerate behaviour from males which is fair enough.

Personally I attach some blame to modern feminism for the breakdown in protective attitudes towards women, which I think all males should be encouraged to feel...within reason as some go too far.

Any ideology that pits male/female against each other only hurts both.

My sadly departed mother raised me that a male never hits a woman as a matter of principle (obvious exceptions like saving life), pretty much because it's a dysfunction of the male/female dynamic....but I realise that life can put people in difficult situations but it should always be the principle they look to.

Women should also have social pressures on behaviour but I agree with you that when it comes to violence the main focus is correctly on males.

First bit in bold is absolutely what I'm calling for. I think a lot of blokes (no blame attached) genuinely don't realise how vulnerable some women feel physically.

I think the second bold bit is a bit of a reach (to put it mildly). Feminism isn't pitting women against men, it's just striving for a level playing field.

I don't think any men or woman is going to feel any more or less required to protect a woman physically, no matter how much of an ardent feminist they are. The facts are that most men and faster and stronger than most women so if they were attacked they are fighting against the odds.

Sounds reasonable - unlike that pompous (male) fool on the Radio 4 1 o'clock news, who said men shouldn't go out at night.

I don't think is this an area where we can agree.

Not only do I think you're wrong about what feminism does by its very nature. I think you're wrong and only perpetuate damage in many different ways to even think in terms of 'level playing field'.

A 'level playing field' is the very opposite of meritocracy.

It's the kind of luxury thinking that only someone who's ever really experienced the hard end of life can think.....which is why it's mainly believed by the leftist middle class...What was it that Orwell said, 'One has to belong to the intelligentsia to believe things like that: no ordinary man could.'

I had the exact same post in mind to make at roughly the same time you posted it. These horrible events are an eye-opener to the importance of listening to women and thinking about their position in society.

I think we disagree because we have a different definition of 'level playing field'. If we think about it in terms of football given that it's a sporting analogy I think you think of it as people wanting every game to end in a draw and end up level on points at the end of the season and no one wins any trophies.

By level playing field we mean that everyone should start the match with the same number of players, having had equal access to the same level of training and facilities, and that the referee makes unbiased decisions that do not advantage one side over the other.

There are still 'winners' and 'losers', everyone has just had an equal opportunity at success.
