I would guess he got a contract because he can pass a ball, has composure, can dribble, can tackle, is probably fitter than everyone on here, played at Ajax for years so knows how football should be played, can play most positions on the pitch, happy on the ball anywhere on the pitch, takes the pressure off his teammate with a pass that is the correct speed and on the floor more times than not .. if you’d prefer someone else recommendations welcome I would argue that his game is not suited to the premier league. Well not in Palace type team anyway. His passing is either sideways or backwards, of course there are times when he passes forward. Pretty much every game he plays he just runs around like headless chicken and I feel he offers very little to the side. In fact you say he takes pressure off other players I would suggest he adds pressure to them. He is at best a squad player and would not be first choice if the bulk of our midfielders were fit. Here's a though 2 week of March well before Easter our team,who have been a team not a bunch of starlets have got stuck in and secured another season in the most competitive league. Granted the tactics are pragmatic with and aging squad. That said well done all concerned. I was never keen with change to Barcelona kit n logo as it gives delusions. We're Palace even under Steve we would win ugly.

Another game closer to the end of the season and Roy. Good result, absolute s***e football yet again. Feel sorry for Mateta. Scores a worldwide against our rivals and hasn’t played since!

However, our team and manager have probably done just enough to secure funding for their extortionate wages for another year.

Is it just me as I’m really beginning to think that some on here just post to garner a reaction and are really just trolls..!!! Meantime even as one in the “Roy out” camp I’m happy to say “well done Roy” on securing our Premiership status for a 9th season - with a side note as painful as it has been to watch..!!! COYP

Clinging on for the points at home to what is essentially a Championship side. Probably the 2 worst footballing teams in the division. Early wins against Man U and Southampton, together with lucking out at Brighton will likely see us up this year. Need a massive upgrade this summer before our luck runs out.

If someone had watched the game without knowing the table, and you said one team is just below halfway and the other is second to bottom. They would have struggled to see which is which.

West Brom were the better team imo, but not by much. As we know the final third is often not our forte either. Good defence and organisation I do not find drab, but absorbing. I didn't feel they would score a goal at anytime really, or us.
