Aside from the astonishing double standards, the lack of respect for the police from all sides is shameful. They are the blunt instrument that upholds the law.
After doing their job, they then get criticised from all sides.
I wouldn't blame any police officer if they resigned immediately.

These women were breaking the law end of story.

I look forward to the BBC's follow up story on the mass rape of women by gangs of pakistanis.

I wholeheartedly agree, yet the narrative of blame is about the Police who were enforcing the Covid regulations.

People cannot visit their families in a garden, millions have made huge sacrifices during this pandemic and yet "Reclaim the Streets" etc etc believe they are above the law and that it is acceptable to gather in large numbers in the middle of a public health crisis.Shame on them.

To be honest, I have been hyperventilating
on this matter since yesterday and my dear wife and had enough of hearing my incessant eruptions, ordering me to place my voice on "Mute" or words to that effect.

Finally, my thoughts and prayers are with the family and friends of Sarah Everard at this terrible time for them.RIP.

It is the championship for the Met with their absurd emergency powers.

No other force behaves like them.

They are not responsible and need root and branch reform.

I have even had them in this building telling people not to talk together on the stairs and intimating their right to reside here.

I told them their visit was unnecessary and upsetting and not to come back.

As for covid they do not self-distance and are causing problems not helping them.

They are of course taking advantage of the weakness of a system which awards them such powers without any accountability.

They should be focussing on the psycho cases in their own force.

Another force should be brought in, but its more likely the Met will be judge and jury.

But they have lost the public here.

The BBC have not helped one jot in this, in fact they have been nothing but antagonistic in their approach. The treatment of the police commissioner suggesting she should resign because her officers broke up an illegal group, (thereby enforcing the covid rules as instructed), is an absolute insult to common decency.

What disgusts me looking at some of the footage was there appeared to be an awful lot of people there who had no intention of simply showing their respect to this poor woman who has lost her life. They were just the usual rag tag muffins who turn up to anything where they think they can antagonise the Police and push their own agenda.

I feel for the bereaved family whose daughters death has been hijacked. It is very wrong and utterly distasteful. All genuine mourners could have turned up to lay flowers and pay their respects at any time and I’m sure many have done so without the need for a mass meet.

Our country is now full of some pretty nasty people with zero respect for anyone other than themselves.

I agree with the general thrust of these sentiments.
We are on the 'Same page' on this matter.

Well quite. Systematic grooming for decades all helped along rather nicely by senior management in both the police and local government and not a peep out of the 'sistas'.

And a little bit closer to home, how many Princesses turned up to lay flowers for this poor girl in yet another large London park?

What happened to that poor lady who was kidnapped and then murdered was an utter disgrace. A terrible tragedy. But let's not pretend that the fact that she was white, blonde, middle class and a graduate, along with the fact that her alleged killer looked like a poster boy for Gammonhood, and a serving cop to boot, makes it somehow how fine to protest, and in doing so breaking the current laws pertaining to covid, what happened to her but just wish that all the others could be brushed under the carpet because, when all is said and done, diversity is our strength.

Utter hypocrisy of the worst kind.

I loathe any man who subjects a woman to any kind of abuse. But I also extend that heart felt desire to protect, and protest when it does not happen, across the board. Perhaps one of the few areas of my life in which I am not 'racist' in the modern sense of the word.

Agree on all in this post. Another crucial detail is she was an ‘office professional’ as it’s now known, and single. Crimes like these have been happening forever unfortunately. Now they can identify with one because the lifestyle is the same there’s uproar. What’s worse is there wasn’t any concern for the previous victims discussed.

Yes, lovely girl!

You have to love Ali G. His interview of Beckham is one of the funniest bits of TV ever. Him and Caroline Aherne both similar style, both brilliant.

So bearing that in mind if some dick comes banging on your door threatening you or you or your family are assaulted or burgled its nice to know you won't be using the metropolitan police as your go to people. Charles bronson was in a film about rebels like you. I admire your self help attitude.
One more thing, there are bad in all walks of life not just plod, even leftys like you have bad people; not you of course you are the consummate Saint.

I don't quite see Steeleye as Paul? from Deathwish, but I guess you never know.
I do wonder sometimes about vigilantes. I was thinking that, not sure if anyone has said it, I would be willing to set up a group to be in places to make sure women could walk home safely, because we all know the police aren't going to do it. I guess it just wouldn't work these days anyway.
And where I say the police won't do it, I'm not blaming them, I'm blaming cuts and organisation.

On a serious note the use of ‘bitches’ was quite accurate at the time beyond the use of it as generational joke and probably still is.

a couple of times in my life i needed the protection of the cops from dangerous feckers.

without going into details, if it ever happens again...the last people i would ever contact would be the cops

the UK cops have been a disgrace for many years.
