And it's these attitudes which is why there is such a problem. Not people calling people horrible names. By deeming someone not to be English you're making an intrinsic suggestion that they have fewer rights than you in this country. Less right to a job, less right to government support, healthcare etc. etc. and in essence are a second class citizen. It is those attitudes which are extremely damaging and the cause of such structural issues rather than the name calling.

You can be seen as, registered as, accepted as, welcomed as, anything as, British. Again, someone clearly west European will never be Japanese or Chinese or Nigerian or Ethiopian, and nobody will try to claim they are.

My view of Lammy is that he's black British because he was born here. I know that lawmakers want to pretend that birthplace and ethnicity are intrinsically linked but in my view that's a fantasy. The point has been made many times but instances of birth in foreign lands is very weak as a claim that most believe....for example, David Gower, Cliff Richards and even Rudyard Kipling were born in India....only the deluded thinks this makes them Indian. There is no hard and fast rule but personally I think you have to be at least 50 genetically European before you can start claiming a European heritage as your identity. I recognise that if someone is mixed then they have that self identity to decide. However, the reality of Lammy is that if he has any European genes at all it's obviously nowhere near half. However, if someone wants to consider themselves English and they are genuine it isn't a big deal...Hell, if someone considers themselves a fruit bowl, I have no issues about that as long as I don't have to be involved in the delusion. It's weird how little I care how David Lammy identifies himself anymore. He is clearly a political opportunist, like all of them in Westminster, and still has an eye on a potential leadership run so it makes sense for him to play the 'English' card and to be fair, on a cultural level, perfectly justified. But in terms of genetics/DNA, I suspect that the future might be more about wider terms. From my perspective, perhaps the future might be about us rising above petty nationalisms and adopting a more European identity along say (T)traditionalist lines. But then again I want us all speaking Latin so perhaps I am a little far out on this one! But the threats we face are from an enemy that takes an internationalist stance, be it from the Left and/or Islam hence why we perhaps need to match that? Drop all the petty regional bulls***?

I don’t think so at all, especially as I agree that you have black British, Asian British. You even have people in those groups using their country of origin anyway. How do you have Asian English then? They aren’t both. Unless I suppose they’re half and half. I don’t know why you care anyway. You and Lammy are quite happy to eradicate English from this land and loathe it and everyone white anyway, including yourself. There will be conversations all over England where white people will say or admit they aren’t 100% English anyway, so no, it isn’t away of excluding people.

It was one of the factors I never quite got about the EU. It championed the notion of a European identity on an elite level so that the notion of a Swedish man working for a Spanish bank attending a meeting in Berlin where fluent English is the default language is the accepted norm. But other than that? Almost nothing at all. The only time I ever saw what I would consider a reasonable cross-section of the British public cheering on anything with a European flag was during the Ryder Cup. That kind of sporting jingoism has an impact. Can foster a sense of common identity. And yet nothing made of it whatsoever. If anything, probably more sneering from the folks who inhabit the EU world than recognising it as an opportunity to promote a common bond. Edited by Matov (30 Mar 2021 11.40am)

It's quite amusing when the left suggest that there are 'structural' problems due to attitudes. The left run the structures. They run the institutions, the media, corporations....you name it. Perhaps Dan wants to run a purity spiral witch hunt amongst leftists? A 'racism inquisition'? All very Salem.
