I recently started the thread about some of the dreadful TV commercials that are pushed out.

As is often the case, the topic drifted away and swung towards good products and services that aren't or don't need advertising. Harpo told us how pleased he was with the Vax vaccy he'd bought and Stirling suggested someone should start a thread.

So here it is. Your chance to recommend products, services or places you're pleased with or to ask your fellow Holmesdalers for views about something you're interested in.

I'll start off with one of the best buys I've made. No longer able to do any heavy or arduous work I struggled with cutting the grass so invested in a Husqvarna robot mower. Brilliant. If you're not fussed about fancy stripes on your lawn the robot works away quietly, cleanly, cheaply and effectively cutting the grass day or night, rain or shine while you watch, beer in hand.

There you have it. I recommend a Husqvarna Automower. Five stars.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Good thread.

I have been extremely impressed with the ongoing service received from Audi in Coulsdon following the purchase of my second hand approved car via PCP.

In particular when it went in for a recent servicing, I received a video message from the mechanic walking under my car (which was on stilts) picking out the faults with suggested remedial work with costs. An example being that the front right tyre tread had worn down below the minimum legal requirement. Additionally, I receive emails and texts when when MOT/services are due so don't have to worry about that.

Like many, I am useless with cars and whilst I appreciate there is a slight premium to this type of service, it is all extremely transparent and I am happy to pay it as I know everything is in order. The car runs beautifully and I know it's kept in excellent condition which will help its value when I eventually trade it in.

A recent quote I heard was “If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur.” Couldn't be truer - this is why I will always get my future cars from Audi approved rather than Dicks Discount Cars or Auto Trader

Everyone with a garden who could do without the weeding hassle should own a weed burner. It’s the length of a broom with a trigger a the top. Put the bottom over the weed and within 10-15 seconds the weed is dead. About £45.

Husqvarna robot mowers don’t look very big so I wonder how much capacity there is for grass cuttings.

Only yesterday, I purchased more of my favourite brand of garden machinery, I had a look at a small demo lawn with a Husqy on it.
It comprises a flat bit with obstacles and a gradient bit. Well, more like the north face really. And this thing clambers all over it - Land Rover stylee.

My brand of choice is EGo. One battery, many applications. Expensive, but worth every penny. I have a lawnmower, a strimmer, an edger, with a hedge trimmer and rotary cutter to follow.

Thing about these things Rudi, is they don't collect grass cuttings. The mower works fairly often (you can programme from your phone wherever you are) and the tiny cuttings act as a fertiliser. Husqs ads on YouTube describe better than me.

Yep. I went for Bosch cordless stuff. Same principle. Works well and no more tangled or chopped wires to deal with. Batteries are getting better all the time too, so longer use and less charging.

If you're getting weights and that kind of stuff I can recommend 'York'.

Always go with iron.

you need a 2nd mortgage at present to buy dumbbells now, Sterling.
prices are crazy!
Years ago you could pick up a set anywhere, now theyre often out of stock and treble the price.

I had noticed an increase in price and availability problems....perhaps it's like garden paving or fencing projects at the moment and the lockdown has seen people order that kind of stuff like crazy.

Hopefully if and when normality resumes (and you won't be blamed by me for being skeptical on that) everything is affordable and available again.

I've noticed this too. All exercise equipment is off the charts expensive. No doubt due to gyms closing. That's also why you can't turn on the TV without being bombarded by Peloton ads!
