Point of information: every club that has played in the top division of English football has been relegated at some point. Arsenal was mentioned as never having been relegated, but they went down in season 1912/13.

As for relegation from the Premier League there are seven clubs that have never been relegated: Arsenal, Spurs, Man U, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool and Brighton.

And started WWI to avoid the consequences.

After WW1 when football was re-started Arsenal were invited to re-join the top division. I think even the most one eyed gooner would accept that money changed hands on that one.

And managed to get the local tube station renamed Arsenal as well.

I’ve enjoyed reading this thread - with some sage views expressed.
Your never safe till your mathematically safe - but it will be a huge task for Fulham to overturn it now.

On that magical day in 2013 I never thought we’d stay stay up the following season- I desperately hoped we would (obviously) but history told me it was unlikely. And yet here we are 8 years (and an FA Cup final) later.

We have without question exceeded what I hoped for - we have SP and the successive managers to thank for that (not FDB!) and as a result my hopes have shifted from delight at survival at any cost to hope that we can achieve mid table safety with the odd Cup run and victory over the Big Six here and there.

The big question now is whether we can do that playing better football (excluding Monday’s performance which was a much better watch than I was expecting) than we have seen this season and end of last season.
Was the improvement on Monday because we are now SAFE ENOUGH to play a better brand of football and Roy can afford to role
the dice more than he ordinarily would? Or was is a one off?

Remains to be seen - but let’s hope so! I would like Roy’s time to end on a high.

I'm very glad we've got another year but what i want is the stadium renovated. Stoke, Hull, Blackpool, Sunderland, Derby, Bolton, Wigan all have stadiums that are fit for top flight football and we have an open sewer in the Arthur and a main stand dating back to God knows when.

And there is a common denominator of all the above teams. Were in the Prem, spent a shed load on new/redeveloped grounds and......

Sorry to be pedantic but they were called Woolwich Arsenal then.

Not looking good for them but I haven't discounted them beating the dreaded drop at this juncture.
They have been defeated in their last 4 games.
Their remaining fixtures :

A : Arsenal
A : Chelsea
H : Burnley
A : Southampton
A : Man Utd
H : Newcastle

Newcastle have 2 games in hand and have a 3 point advantage but look at their fixtures which includes an away game at Fulham in their final match. :

A : Burnley
H : W.Ham
A : Liverpool
H : Arsenal
A : Leicester
H : Man C
H : Sheff Utd
A : Fulham

I'd just like to sense progress, be it stadium, squad renewal, more modern playing style or some ambition in the cups.

Its that last one that really bites with me. We arent alone in this "pragmatic approach". I have a mate who is a Wolves fan and this year they had a winnable 5th round tie at home to a woefully out of form Southampton but put out an under strength side and lost. Saints then got Bournemouth in the 6th round and now have a semi against Leicester and a realistic shot at a final. Wolves meanwhile are .0000001 mathematically safe and nothing to play for. Saints are not quite so safe .0001 mathematically but retain some interest. I know which one I'd rather be. Is it too much to ask for all the money fans put in, one way or another, to actually try in the one or two competitions that can actually bring some real joy?

Happy for Wolves victory last night, but still feel sorry for Fulham. They were the far better team (at least the last 35 minutes I watched the game) - and Wolves very poor. But a sucker punch from Traore in extra time did the damage.
You could tell from manager Parker and the players' reactions that this was a sickening blow - and that Premier League next season now is only a dream.

Firstly we are not 'mathematically safe.' Secondly why celebrate another year of mediocracy? Is that the extent of our ambition?

We have been in the top division now for more than enough years to establish ourselves there, we have a Premier league wage bill yet still struggle season upon season with a fan base that includes many who view simply staying up as a great success.

Add to that poor recruitment an aging overpaid squad and a desperate need to rebuild when of appearances are to be believed we have little or no money and owners who either cannot or will not invest I am not sure we have much to shout about.

Not at all just can't get excited by those who get excited by simply survival at the moment. By watching dull football and Roy trotting out the same old story win lose or draw.

I want to be entertained not sent to sleep.

Not found myself in a barrel of tits for a while now, probably a mixture of my advancing years and social distancing.
