Chauvin s actions were appalling and he deserved to be punished but Waters/Biden getting involved pre verdict was outrageous especially Waters comments. I can see the US having trouble recruiting police officers in the future.

Unless speaking out was a deliberate ploy so that when the guilty verdict came in (as it inevitably had to, just to keep the peace on the streets), his lawyers can now base their (inevitable) appeal on the basis that the jury was influenced by outside forces and he cannot have a second trial 'cos he wouldn't now be able to get a fair one.

Awkward for a lot of people on here.

This guy had no chance of a fair trial.

When the police have to deal with an endless stream of scum on a daily basis, it is inevitable that this kind of event will happen.
George Floyd was a criminal and unfortunately for him, he met with cop who was had become perverted by the job he chose to do.
When you are faced with murderers and scum every day that is understandable but not acceptable. This guy will pay a big price for his actions, but it will change nothing.
All the time Black people make up a massive disproportion of criminals and the police have to put their lives at risk dealing with them, this sort of thing will continue to happen.

If Floyd was White, none of this would e news.

Well Chauvin was definitely guilty of something in my eyes but I think he has a chance on appeal.

The jury were not sequestered during the trial so must have been aware of the media frenzy and comments by politicians up to the point when they were asked to deliberate.

This was a major mistake by the judge.

As for the democrats they seem to forget that this all took place under their local leadership. Nothing to do with Trump or Biden for that matter. Local politics.

I still don't understand why people who believe the police treat them unfairly continue to vote for the same political party that is in charge of the police.

Chauvin should not have done what he did and it seems likely that he contributed to the Floyd's demise given the little info that I know.
Should he be convicted of three crimes in one - not in my opinion.
The jury were prejudiced and understandably so.
The likes of Biden getting involved is disgraceful - he should have kept quiet but with Harris behind him there is little chance of that - she is a dangerous woman.
There are a lot of wrongs in this whole s*** show and this Policeman getting to spend the rest of his life in prison is totally wrong - albeit he deserves serious punishment if only to show that this stuff cannot continue to happen.
Behind all of this is a scumbag called Floyd who was a drug addict career criminal who held a knife to a pregnant woman's belly amongst many other things and yet now he is hailed as some kind of Saint!
This whole thing is wrong but this outcome helps no one.
The Police will be extra careful, criminal activity will rise and as always nowadays wrong will triumph over law and order with the Democrats hailing it as a triumph!

Badger - the Democrats always conveniently forget that the highest crime areas in America are under their leadership!
I know I keep banging on about Chicago but that City is a human tragedy presided over by more Democrats than you can shake a stick at.
They are a disgrace and they all distance themselves from the mess that they create on a daily basis.
If it was happening in the UK then there would be serious repurcussions and quickly.

There hasn’t been the same level of outrage or even interest in Britain over Adam Toledo.

He had a gun, he just dropped it. Clearly a mistake but a split second one. I don't think reasonable people can blame people for genuine mistakes. It's obviously completely different to Floyd.
The overall problem is the gun one. The Democrats haven't done anything about it. Instead they want to blame everything on race. When the country explodes in violence, they have themselves to blame. Plenty of everyday police officers will not protect them after being thrown under the bus like this. You'd have to be mad to join the cops now. Treated like the enemy. I wouldn't respond to anything dangerous, they won't either.

This was a straight forward murder trial where the assailant, a cop, committed the crime on camera.

He took another man's life and was as guilty as hell.

No jury could find any different, the video evidence cannot be wished away.

Daft conspiracy theories, democrats and republicans, are not relevant.

What happened, actually happened.

George Floyd’s background is irrelevant. It is not the policeman’s job or right to use lethal force and to decide if someone lives or dies, no matter they are accused of doing. This judgement reflects that.

Absolutely. Being a policeman in parts of America must be a horrible job.
I’m not trying to compare this with the Floyd case except to say that the shooting of a 13 year old in Chicago seems to have gone relatively unnoticed in Britain whereas Floyd’s case was massively covered.

You what?! Jesus wept. It is very much the policeman's job, and right. An assesment must be made, sometimes under extreme conditions, sometimes with very little time to react.

...and no, this judgement "does not relect that"... or do you seriously think that use of Deadly Force is neither legal nor sanctioned in the US?

[Link]

In the United States, the use of deadly force by sworn law enforcement officers is lawful when the officer reasonably believes the subject poses a significant threat of serious bodily injury or death to themselves or others. The use of deadly force by law enforcement is also lawful when used to prevent the escape of a fleeing felon when the officer believes escape would pose a significant threat of serious bodily injury or death to members of the public.
