Willo, Bert Howe was more assassin than footballer.

Vic Rouse was the first goalie I can remember. Left back was Bert Howe, right back was Roy Summersby and I could go on because I'm older than Willo.

Not correct. The other full back in those days was Alf Noakes. He and Bert Howe both played over 200 games between the mid-fifties and early-sixties.

Summersby was what in those days was called an inside forward. He and Byrne were prodigious scorers in our rise from the fourth division.

(I'm much older than Willo!)

Vic Rouse was the first goalkeeper I saw at Selhurst . I started going to the ground 59/60 season [ I am also older than Willo ] I wish we had a goalkeeper as good as him now .

I seem to recall Sewell and Howe being full-backs in the 60s in the same team.
Rather a long time ago, and the passage of time can dim the memory !

I am younger than 'Father Ken' and 'JRW2' !

If I remember right did John Sewell have the nickname of shovel , as he always took a couple of steps back before kicking or shovelling it up the field

John certainly shovelled it to Gary Sprake if you remember.

I do remember that. Sprake was prone to that sort of error - he threw the ball into his own net at Anfield causing the Kop to sing Careless Hands to him.
John Sewell now lives in America, he’s 84.

Seeing that goalkeeping reminded me of Wayne Hennessy!
And then this came up on you tube alongside it - I didn't know that Don Rogers was goal of the season 1973.
The pitch is a right mess.
Also great goals by Stan Bowles and Charlie George.
