Think he’s a bit better than that. Probably a fair bit better than Mike Elwiss.

Credit for knowing who Mike Elwiss was. You must be a real supporter. Harkouk could play a bit too. Good on ya.

So sad re Elwiss. He was beginning to do the business regularly when he got injured (Did we get him from Blackburn? Can't quite remember. I remember fans around me questioning why we bought him. We're an unlucky team - (almost) always have been IMO.

Back to the match.....Why,oh why, do we NOT put on subs when any idiot can see the players on the field are one, tired, just out payed, and not thinking...We have talent on the bench, but Roy, or whoever, sticks with the same ole same ole..useless..

We had Ben-Take-Away, miss 3 sure goals within minutes of one another in the second half...so what does Roy do ???? Nothing, that's what.. Well, when he did, its too late... Maybe he has a mind block ??

Not good enough, No wonder Wilf looks "pissed" at times, he scores a goal, only for the rest of his team, let him down..again....
The wife and I, turned off in disgust...Wilf, we would really really miss you, but, it is better for you, if you leave and join a team that can play to your standards..and not a bunch of losers like we are....

Here since 81...(LAST CENTURY !!).. x-Dunraven School, early 1960.... Palace 'nut' since 58....

Thank you. I remember watching Elwiss as a kid - he was a good player I think we signed him from Preston. I remember a thumping header at home to Newcastle in a 1-0 win. Steve Hardwick was the Newcastle keeper ( I think) who went on to play very briefly for us in the mid eighties.

James McArthur is up there with my favourite players - I guess we all have a different view.

"Work in progress" and I wasn't totally comfortable with him at left-back but could certainly see potential.

Gargantuan step up from the Academy to the PL and I do feel that playing regularly at a lower-level will aid his development.

Didnt do AWB much harm did it?

I know we have weakness throughout the squad and I don’t mean to pick on one player but week in week out Roy sticks with Benteke probably on orders from above in the hope he does something...anything in fact to bolster their hopes of selling him. He however remains a prize lemon on the pitch with leaden slow legs and terrible positional awareness. The easiest player to dispossess or rob the ball from in the Premiership by far.

Mateda and Batshuayi must be fuming and rightly so...

Well said, Benteke is a wasted player on the team sheet, once he is selected then it's like playing with 10, the sooner he heads off to his team room and makes the tea the better I Suspect he will use chocolate tea pots there as well!

Wilf took his goal well but aside from that I thought he was poor. Leicester dealt with him easily and he was repeatedly dispossessed. I agree about the subs though. Has Roy ever made a brave substitution? At this stage of the season we may as well have given it a go.

Indeed. Yes; we got Mike Elwiss from Preston. He'd been at Doncaster Rovers before that. I think I saw his last start for us- at Cambridge in a 0-0 draw one raw December night. He might have been part of that 'Team of the Eighties' were it not for his knee injury. Another player I rated very highly was Jeff Bourne, who we got from Derby around the same time. Another Venables signing? Happy Days. Some would say the times are better now. Eight consecutive years in the top flight is difficult to argue with...

Agree with all the Elwiss commendations - we beat Leicester 3-1 at home in what could have been his last game at Selhurst - he scored two, the second a thumping half volley to secure the win. We could have a separate thread on Nostalgia talk.
