ANd why would he want the job? It's a curse, as things stand. No real chance of forming a new Government for the rest of the decade, lumbered with an internal policy that means it cannot actually change much by way of its policy stances without agreement from the membership and effectively held hostage by the Unions.

I agree he is the successful senior Labour politician at the moment.

Labour are institutionally 'woke'. Putting them at complete odds with the socially conservative working classes they need to win back.

Utterly screwed.

As in Lord of the rings," there is but one"
Maybe David milliband would come back. His soapy brother prevented it before.
I could be way out of touch but he did have a bit about him.

Possible.

He has been parked in New York running some NGO 'charity', which are usually fronts for the usual types. He would certainly be the choice for the likes of Mandleson.

But again, the praticalities. He needs landing in a safe seat and then needs to be able to take control of the entire party to get it on message before 2024.

Suspect if he does make a return, it will not be until at least the next GE and only then could take the reins.

The entire Labour party structure is utterly f***ed. A new leader does not mean new policies or a change in direction simply because they do not have the power, without the majority of both the members and the TU's. Let's not forget that Starmer won on the basis of promising to effectively continue with Corbyn's legacy.

What they also fail to understand is that the British public like the ‘string em up / send them back’ type politics of Priti Patel etc and they also don’t care about Boris and his posh mates filling their boots from the coffers, or tax avoidance, or the NHS. In fact now I come to think about it what are the public bothered about? Apart from Brexit which has now finished? If Trump applied for UK citizenship he would probably be elected!

what finished off Labour in the North of England was

a) 1997 Tony Bliar deliberately opened the Borders of the country to the World.

and

b) the pakistani Rape gangs.

Or the illegal wars he entered our Armed Forces in to boost his own popularity. He has been found out to be a war criminal so why has he never been prosicuted?

Agreed but why did Burnham quit Parliament? Because he felt that he had no chance of progression within the party and rather than leave like Chukka did he decided to pursue his career in the north.

What sort of power base does he have at Westminster amongst the metropolitan elite?

To the average voter he seems a solid candidate but I suspect the Corbynists would not favour him?

Anyway he has to be elected as an MP first.

If I was a Labour spokesperson I would try some mea culpa, apologise to the thousands of party workers who knock on doors and work from within to try and reshape the party into a something resembling an electable alternative.

What I would not do is kiss Starmer's arse so my final pension is increased bu virtue of having been promoted above entry level MP.

Ian Murray was doing a full Yes Minister when questioned on Angela Rayburn.

I would give my full support to any Corbynista has been who parrots on about how well Corbyn did and Labour should return to the " progressive " policies in the 2019 manifesto.

The current Government is actually relocating hundreds of Treasury jobs to Darlington, a good example of something Labour talked about and never did, and a real demonstration of the start of the levelling up project.

Conservatives are parked in Labour's gardens and nowhere for Labour to go.

But, to be fair, Labour is so out of touch that it is a very long term project. Hard to see a Labour PM ever again unless it's leading a coalition.

As I have opined before, Labour needs to somehow find the 40+ seats they always got in Scotland and that is not in view with the Hubble telescope.

If the public were given a full and frank account of how much Government, central and local costs, and what individuals are taking out they would be shocked and horrified IMO.

On topic what would you do if them? Indeed what did the tories do when they were losing deposits left right and centre during their dark years. And all cabinet ministers on rotation (except tellingly BJ) to tough it out on the various sleaze allegations.

Politics eh?

I assume this is a joke if not this is what is wrong with Labour. Obsessed with tick box identity politics. The real problem with Labour is their inability to select a leader with gravitas and charisma who can get them elected. If that is a woman or black or gay blah blah then fine but talent has to be the key element.

Across the country Labour Party HQ has foisted favoured candidates onto the local party and in many cases the voters have said no thanks.

Get back to basic tell the local parties to mentor local people with high profiles (as they did in the old days) instead of the identity kit university suits they have now.

They aren't that obsessed with box ticking if they haven't had a female leader yet.
