Without him we would have been relegated this and many other seasons.
I think he is carrying a proper injury as well.
I am happy for him to stay or go - he deserves whatever he wants with our blessing!

This

He has insisted on playing whilst injured but it can’t be fun.

If Benteke was on £20,000 per week I suspect most of us would say he was good value. His performance doesn't warrant his salary it doesn't mean he is rubbish just over paid.

He isn't on 20k a week, and will not drop to anywhere near that, that's way he needs to go, Ayew is better at center forward and Mateta deserves a run

I don't want to give anyone the assumption that I'm ITK, as I'm not, but I've heard that Wilf is resigned to the fact that his best years are behind him, and that at his age now he has no hope of playing in a top European side. He will therefore see out his career at Palace and will be signing a new 4 year contract shortly.

I won't be naming the source and it might all be bowlocks, but they are usually spot-on when it comes to all things Palace.

If he does sign a new contract and we don't offer him the same salary he is entitled to a free transfer unless he agrees, that's the law, cant see Wilf getting a new Four year on 130k a week

Thought this merited its own thread.

IMO Wilf remains a great player. My best possible scenario for him is that he remains at the club to form a formidable partnership with Eze to terrify PL defences and score many goals. I'd also hope he cheers up.

His ambitions are well known here but perhaps his attitude has dented his chances of achieving them.
He is too easily wound-up and many defenders know just how to do this. Is it to late for him to change his attitude?

He has been a great player for us and without him we'd not be in the PL. We should never forget that.

Some on here are losing sight of that.

In regards to his attitude, he's been a first team player for over 10 years now - he's not going to change. I certainly think that has put prospective purchasers off in the past.

If you at things from his perspective, he gets kicked all over the place and gets scant protection from referees - it must get frustrating. But it's a part of his make up, it's what makes him what he is - he's South London and Proud !

Agree 200% - the quicker he leaves, the better. For Wilf, he is his own worst enemy and the opposition knows how to wind him up. Add to that, think it is difficult for him to realize that Eze is our main man now!
Otherwise, I hope Wilf buckles down and show us the real WZ next season.

He is for my opinion easily the best player we have ever had, and has kept us in the premier league almost on his own some seasons

I'm at the point where footballing wise of course I want him to stay, but I find it increasingly hard to listen to him giving interviews about how much he wants to leave. If he wants to go then I just want him to go this summer as no one is bigger than the club and in Eze we finally have another game changer. If he decides to stay I hope it is out of genuine desire and he starts celebrating our goals again!

I thought he was Palace's worst player today, and with Ward on the pitch, that's saying something. His transfer value falls with each game he plays. His reaction to Eze's goal was revealing: no particular celebration; just incomprehension as to why Eze didn't square the ball to him. It's clear also that he has no particular chemistry with Benteke. Wilf just looks brassed off all the time these days.

i think you've nailed it with this summary.

Lack of celebration is inexcusable and clearly shows there is an issue regardless of what he or Palace say.

Last few games he's been moved more to the left to make us more of a 433 which is clearly helping Eze (best game for months).
Wilf clearly less keen so back to last season sulking and limited effort.

How does he thinks this will help him get a move?

I noticed he has changed his agent (again) - 4th in last 2 years.

no that was the pre Bosman rule - all changed since Bosman. If he is already under contract we can offer him whatever we want - he doesn't have to sign.

At the end of his contract he's entitled to a free, regardless of what we offer him.

Zaha has every right to feel frustrated and gutted at his career trajectory. He was the brightest young talent, and could never have envisaged that at his age he'd be just slogging away every week at a lower mid table club. He has a degree of talent beyond anyone else we have yet he has nothing more to show for it than Townsend, Ayew etc in terms of his playing level and opportunities. Yes I know he gets well paid, but he plainly isn't about money as he gives massive sums away to charity. I know he signed the contract of his own free will, but that doesn't mean he can't regret it now.

I've got a real problem with players who sign for clubs like ours in the expectation that they'll only do two years and then get the big move they really want regardless of whether they really advance Palace as a club, but the likes of Zaha are the opposite end of the spectrum. He literally could not have done more for us. We'd never have got promoted without him or stayed up. He has carried the team for years. I literally cannot think of another individual to have done more for Palace - even Wright had a great team around him.

We have hit the glass ceiling as a club and can go no further. Zaha can, but it's passing him by. I would be gutted too if I were him.

The hard truth for Zaha is that if he stays by next season he probably won't even be the best player at Palace anymore. I wish for him that he'd gotten his move last summer and both parties could have moved on. The truth is, he had a poor season in 2019/20 and no one was going to pay a significant sum for him least of all in the middle of a pandemic. If he wants to carry on playing football for us though he needs to put that behind him and put his heart into Palace. He had a strong first half to this season and I hope he can re-find that form whatever his future may hold. The reality is, if he wants CL football he is going to have to move abroad now, if he and his agent can find a taker. Italy may be an option, but those options are surely disappearing fast.

I hope Zaha gets his move, no player has done more for us in the last ten years. He deserves a chance at a higher level. I really can't understand how Arsenal for example, think they can do better than Zaha, after yet another season of underachievement for a so called elite club.

As a club we also need him to go as the money we could get for him will decline each year he stays.

We can use this money on trying to replace members of the current squad-giving ourselves the best chance of staying up.

While it will be a struggle to stay up next year, we managed it in our first year back in the premiership without Wilf, and we can do so again.
