Former Manchester United and England winger Steve Coppell - the 65-year-old former Crystal Palace, Manchester City and Reading boss - is currently a short-priced favourite with bookmakers to fill the managerial vacancy.

Coppell, whose last English managerial role ended prematurely at Bristol City in August 2010, worked at Palace with Walsall technical director Jamie Fullarton, who was appointed in April.

The 2021-22 campaign will be the Saddlers' third back in the EFL's bottom tier, following relegation from League One in 2019.

The arrival of Lampard would bring an new wave of much needed excitement to the club and, according to the article, he’s have some money to rebuild as well as bring in some quality loans. I like the sound of this, in particular the mention of Billy Gilmour and Tammy Abraham (almost certain that wouldn’t happen though).

The more I think about Lampard joining, the more appealing it is. Proven success at integrating young players into the fold which is exactly what we need.

Interestingly, I am in Athens and Olympiacos, who get the title this evening, their fans telling me that we after their manager Pedro Martens strongly; can we leave him stay and go after a coach who's out of a job. They gave me a long list, none of whom really got me interested. Is there any truth in it? Must be something in it for to be news, but would be normal for a Premier league club who may want a new manager to sound out potential candidates. He's an interesting shout; better than "Fat Frank" ? I will see if anything more said tomorrow; parties do lead to loose lips etc.

Lampard would be exciting but it could go either way, you'd be ultra confident Dyche would keep us up and I think we'd be pleasantly surprised by his brand of football, as we were with Pulis and Big Sam, some managers can be unfairly stereotyped.
