I've had plenty of issues with Roy as a manager. However, no doubt he believed he did his best, the club were happy with it. We don't all have to agree and be clappy happy all the time. I think most fans respect Roy, but just think we need a change. We don't have to agree with a person's decisions to respect them and wish them well. Roy was never going to be with us forever. Time to say goodbye. Lasted longer than most.
Frankly, (excuse the pun), every manager gets slagged off by their fans, it's part and parcel of the modern game and bound to be exacerbated on fan's forums. People are still going to clap and stand for Roy, whether they particularly liked him as a manager or not. He's not done a Dowie has he.

No but the language from more than a few was that if he didn't go at the end of the season they would hound him out.ie "If there were fans in the ground...etc"

"I can't bear to watch etc". FFS seriously, I think a few need to get a grip.

I know, fans get passionate and even silly sometimes. I suppose it's part of the fun. Sometimes I look back at Palace's worst times since I started supporting them, and I miss it. God knows why. It's just irrational, can't explain it. I presume most Palace fans know what I mean.

I think the last year we've been saturated with TV football and too many have stopped being fans and become armchair critics.

You can appreciate what Hodgson has done/achieved whilst hating the way he goes about his business.

excuse my french...my “bitter vitriol” is based towards the dimwits with split personalities who dont know what it is to be a palace fan.

Would have been interesting if Frank de B had been manager without any fans in the stadium. Would SP have reacted as quickly as he did, if he’d got a few more games would we have survived that season.

I agree, I think a lot of people forget how well top level managers are paid. They don’t do it out of the goodness of their heart and if they get the plaudits at times then they also need to accept the criticism as it is part and parcel of the well paid job that it is.

I disagree with those who say we will struggle to get a decent replacement manager. There are plenty out there itching to have a chance at earning that sort of money.

I’ve supported Palace because of local team allegiance. I never signed an agreement saying I’d keep attending to watch the most anti football on the planet I honestly feel there is nothing to watch so I may as well not. After so long of it you start to question why. I’m not even sure it’s doing the club any long term favours, unless a buyer does come in soon. But the chances of that are low if it is the case Parish won’t cease being the chairman.

i think, rudi...what irks me is there seems to be an entitlement to good free flowing attacking football.

in my 35 years supporting the club i can count on 1 hand the amount of seasons weve played easy on the eye football and nearly all of those has come during promotion seasons where we been winning.

and even then actually its not been amazing its just winning papers over the cracks of style of play a lot of the time.

if we had massive investment in the squad that entitlement would be justified, but for people to aim there frustration at roy, who is just getting the job done with the tools available to him is frustrating.

over the past months ive seen comments like, hope he dies, and hope he catches covid. what sort of scumbag says that about anybody?
