He's not said that people should be forced to have it, just that if you can't be bothered then it's logical for health reasons that there are consequences. That has always been the case anyway. Several countries already require you to display a Yellow Fever certificate before entry for instance. You're not walking around in a bubble. Choices you make for your health can and will impact others.

This idea that 99% people do not need to be vaccinated is absurd, so I have no idea why it keeps getting stated. In fact it implies that vast numbers of those who actually died of covid 'didn't need to get vaccinated', when clearly they would have benefited from doing so had it been an option at the time.

If the vaccine works, and anyone at risk has been offered the opportunity of a vaccine, why would anyone be concerned about those who have not been vaccinated?

Why do people need to inject something into them they dont need that makes no sense and if it's all about health well how about people sort out their lifestyles/diets so they are not so unhealthy they cant fight of infections etc.

Right little charmer aren’t you

I have been very wary of vaccinations as being a solution and not just an aid.

Vaccination triumphalism had me wondering if people had left their senses.

Blind optimism with out any foundation, every day is a risk in my opinion.

I think it is obvious that even in countries, who reacted quicker than Boris did and shut down, without the vaccine they are just delaying the inevitable. I was looking at Japan where most people wear masks they are having another lockdown mainly because their vaccine rollout is painfully slow.

So you are right it is not the be all and end all but without it this problem is not going away any time soon.

I’ve got my second one due on Friday. No problem at all after the first but have two friends in their early 50s who’ve been hospitalised with clots after the first (both AZ).
Two isn’t many I suppose, and could be coincidental, but is enough in a town of 5,000 where only over-50s have been vaccinated.

- The health of the individual (where they are elderly or vulnerable and don't get vaccinated)
- the increased likelihood of spread due to those who are not vaccinated
- the impact on those they may infect are consequence (especially likely if they live with them)

People don't live in a bubble. They usually live with other people and as such are in part also responsible for their health and doing the right thing by them. Or wider society. As I've now been vaccinated, I feel more comfortable being around others (who may or may not have been) as I've done the best I can to reduce the chance of spreading a virus to them that could still potentially be a pretty significant negative health event for them. If people don't get vaccinated because they literally don't care if they might be spreading covid because "they'll probably be okay" that strikes me as rather self interested.

The vaccine has been shown to reduce transmission significantly and to drastically reduce hospitalisation and the like too - that can occur with people of any age (in many countries over half of those hospitalised were under 60). I'd rather not have people take up hospital beds because they're under some kind of back of a fag packet illusion that they're part of a made up '99% of people who don't need to get vaccinated'. I dare say that many thousands of those hospitalised would've felt that they didn't need to get vaccinated either.

I'd rather just do my bit for others and get on with it. It seems remarkably selfish not to for something that takes a few minutes of your time.

Sorry BJ but that does not make any sense - we are told that vaccinated people are still likely to be able to spread the virus and all of the old and vulnerable have been offered a vaccine now?

The rest of your note is just speculation...

The data available so far as we well know, suggests that people are significantly less likely to spread covid once vaccinated. You appear to be taking a very literal interpretation of that and saying on account that it's not impossible to be spread post vaccination that it's pointless getting vaccinated. I don't believe that to be true and have explained why.

If someone really doesn't want to get vaccinated they don't have to. I would suggest on account of prior hospitalisations, often people who would benefit from getting vaccinated would not acknowledge or recognise that they did, and that it's very clear that more than 1% of the population benefit from getting vaccinated. I believe my outlook results in much less chance of significant hospitalisations and lowers transmission (which is what we all want) . In uncharted territory, the best call has to be made in the moment, because there's no rewind button and I for one want to avoid further lockdowns.

I refuse to get the Vaccine! I feel I ha e no need to get it.

But I would never discourage anyone to not get it! Or too get it! I don't protest it either other than lockdown restrictions.

Does that make me an anti-vaxxer?

It used to be that you worried that your bag wouldn't reach its destination. Now you get to watch a series of chavs getting clattered around the head with it instead.

I have not said or suggested that it is pointless getting vaccinated - I just do not understand why vaccinated people get so upset about non vaccinated people and your points have not answered that question.

If your concern is about adding pressure to the NHS (potentially) do you take the same view with overweight people, heavy smokers and drinkers as these groups are likely to need more hospital support?
