Had to laugh at an article in Sunday Times today by Rod Liddle (always a good read):

Commenting on the revamp of the FA's three lions emblem he says: (quote)

'A better makeover, and more representative of our national team, might have been a depiction of an overpaid,semi-literate, dilatory half wit looking unconcerned as Iceland score their second goal'

A trifle hard on you-know-who but funny ...

Liddle was referring to a player, surely (anyone of them, TBH). Whatever one thinks of RH, he is no half-wit.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

Pandemic has ensured little money available for investment into the squad.
Until better times, probably the safest option is to keep Roy for another season, unless Dyche becomes available:

Have to agree with you about Roy, he understands the game of football even if his methods are dated. Thought he'd retire gracefully at the end of the season, but in the absence of a clear front runner to take over I now have my doubts.

Not a fan of Dyche though.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Prior to the game, Jamie Rednapp singing the praises of Roy.

And that Roy's talents are legendary in the business and that he still has it.

Listening carefully to all the commentators it does sound like the whispers of Roy retiring are turning into shouting the fact.

Rednapp isn't the only pundit who's been describing the value of Roy's experience recently PV.

Bet there are quite a few of the 'Roy Out' brigade who are having second thoughts right now.

One more year! One more year!

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

More importantly though, think of all the people it'd piss off.

Not me...!!

Todays game just reinforces what I have been saying all season - stop playing square pegs in round holes and let the players express themselves in their best positions rather trying to fit them into Roy's preferred rigid defensive formations.

It's no coincidence today, Zaha playing on the the left never a striker, Eze playing central in the 10 role, run the show and looked a different class to anyone on else on the pitch and Townsend on the Right.

Then beyond that we looked more solid when Kouyate moved into central midfield with Tomkins and Cahill in central defence.

Low and behold we look a different team..!!

But it's taken until today to do what many of us have been saying for weeks.

Yes you can argue injuries - especially with Kouyate having to play central defence, due to the long list of injuries in the central defence and clearly Roy doesn't fancy Kelly.

But if that's true why not buy/get in another central defender in January instead of Mateta who has made what 3 appearances..??, To release Kouyate to play in midfield, where we have been seriously missing legs and physicality.

That aside all the others have been consistently available, but played in the wrong positions to suit Roy's rigid formations.

So given all Roy's experience it's taken him until today - even then only in the second half to see what some of us have been saying all season - put the players in their best positions and let them play..!!

This is why it's time to say thanks Roy for all you have done, but it's time to move on..!!

COYP
