It's interesting to read all the responses to your OP Eagle Black, and I guess what you've learnt is that everyone has a slightly different opinion.

I don't have a laptop, but I do build my own computers. I have one primarily for gaming which is very powerful with high end graphics and a second which acts as a home theatre pc just for copying and showing films on my TV.

My input would be to say that I have used both AMD and Pentium processors and prefer the latter. In truth there's not a lot to choose between them. Plenty of RAM is goods so at least 12gb. Also make sure it has USB 3 connection. They are latest and fastest.

Primarily I wanted to steer you away from HP. My daughter has had a couple and they very quickly bog down and become way too slow. She may have been unlucky but....

I would also say keep away from PC World as hard to find someone helpful for advice. Here are a couple of links to places that might be helpful for professional advice. Worth a phone call anyway.

Good luck.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I recently recommended a friend to Currys as they have a Price Promise if it's cheaper anywhere else.
They were looking at a similar price range and we whittled it down to a Lenovo, Acer or Dell.

Like others I've been burnt with a duff HP one. They should stick to printers.

My son's Acer with a Ryzen processor seems to be going well.
Make sure it's got a SSD drive for fast boot up (they mostly all are but some try and flog 1TB hard drives but they aren't SSD) - as others have said more RAM the better but if it's not for gaming then you won't really notice.

You fed me, you bred me, I'll remember your name.

My Lenovo Yoga 12 convertible, bought online (ebay) for £200 didn't work needed a new battery (£36).

What a bargain it has proved to be, top spec, even has a pen garaged at the corner.

I5 intel 8th gen processor, HD graphics, 360 hinge, lovely keyboard.

They are out there if you can find them.

I work in IT and people are always asking me what PC to buy.

This is what I say to the average Joe, for what you want it for pretty much any PC will do for you, don't spend too much on processing power you don't need.

Criteria you need to bear in mind is if you intend to travel a lot with your machine, if no.. go for a larger screen, if yes maybe go for a lightweight with an external screen keyboard and mouse for home use.

Over here I tell people that want a decent everyday laptop to go to Conforama ( a furniture store that sells some home electronics).
The reason for this is when HP (say) change a model, they buy out all the previous for a song and sell them at cost to get punters in the store, there will not be much difference in the performance and will last you a good few years before considering a new one.

I like HP's and Lenovo (especially Lenovo as their online updates for drivers etc is foolproof).

Hope this helps.
