Quite right becky. No problem with nationality. Genevieve Bujold made a good Boleyn in Anne of a Thousand Days and she's French.

Pedant Alert!!

Would I object to a white man playing a black character? Don't think so, as I have seen enough drama where gender, race or sexuality is changed or fluid. If it is a good drama and gets you thinking I am looking forward to watching it.

if its just one actor ? i guess you got some poetic license...to diverge a tad from historical accuracy.

Did you see Saoirse Ronan as 'Mary, queen of scots' ? The crowd scenes & supporting central characters ?

it made Scotland of the 1580's look like 2021 in West Croydon.

Can we expect a political drama about Enoch Powell, to be portrayed by a black man..

So if Laurence Fox plays a real life black character the woke will be fine with that?

I don't want to get precious about this as it is not that important however if you are doing a drama about a real life person then you have a responsibility to try and portray that person as accurately as possible not just in physical looks but also in character.

If you want to break the mould so to speak there are other ways, for example you could set Anne Boleyn in an alternate universe which then frees you to to cast and portray her and other characters anyway you like.

I shan't be watching for the same reason I wouldn't watch a gay James Bond they are pushing the boundary too far and taking away an essential element of who she was.

Anyway it's not my money so I don't care.

You're so right my little pedant friend. I realised after I sent, but thought I'd get away with it (as Basil famously said).

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I would bet not many critics will be brave enough to question the historical accuracy of Anne being black. Cancel culture alert.

I didn't like Forest Whitaker as Idi Amin.

I reckon Ian McKellen would have been better.

In the interests of historical accuracy - Shakespear's
plays featured men playing female roles - the casting director seems to have over-looked Linford Christie.ws
