I was horrified to read the negative comments about Jordan Ayew on social media. His work rate is exceptional and he brings a lot to the team when he is played in his best position as a striker or a no. 10. Like so many of our best players, Hodgson played them out of position in his obsession with a narrow formation. Eze spent most of the season in his own half in a defensive position when he should have been played in the centre to pull the strings (like Fernades for Man Utd). I accept that Roy has stabilised us in the Premier League, but I am glad he has gone. Let's move forward by playing incisive attacking football and playing to our strengths not our weaknesses. We have excellent youngsters coming through who didn't even make it onto the bench under Roy. Let's blend them into the 1st team squad rather than loan them all out.
Let's keep the ball this season! |

Heartily agree - JA is the most industrious player in the Prem and very skilful. I rate him highly.

poor player should be nowhere near our starting 11. he tries really hard, great...but apart from one purple patch last xmas time he really has been dire. Attachment: CD482B19-E9D0-414B-82EF-0B3864D259D9.jpeg (59.99Kb)

A very worthwhile player having around. Not sure he's starting 11 material when everyone's fit...but certainly a valuable squad player given his flexibility and work ethic. Knows where the goal is too.

He was our player of the season last year, but this year he has been shoved out wide, often as a right midfielder. He works hard, holds onto the ball better than 90% of our players and takes pressure off the defence. But he is not a right midfielder and he doesn't cross the ball, and he is not a target man. To my mind he's a decent squad player and when his confidence is up he is capable of being a top performer. He has certainly not been one of the worst players this season, like most he has just been fairly average.

Agree. Thing is, he's not better than Eze, so won't play long term at 10. He's not better than Benteke, so won't play long term at striker. He's not better than Townsend or Wilf out wide (although has been no worse than Wilf this season)...so he's destined for a bench spot.

Very skilful, but he slows the game down too much for my liking. I prefer a more direct approach, with players looking to break on the opposition at speed rather than dribbling the ball round in circles before losing possession.

Unfortunately that's Ayew, Eze and Wilf. Townsend and Schlupp are more direct though.
