He was worth a lot to us a couple of seasons ago with 4 years on his contract, but nor any more IMO. He had a bang average season last season and he's been going downhill alarmingly in the second half of this season. We all hoped it was because he was carrying an injury. I'm not convinced. When was the last time we saw him go past a player with pace? It used be a regular occurrence. Not any more.

As for Pepe, he's come good in recent months and is certainly performing far better than Wilf. Arsenal will not be letting him go in a hurry.

Personally, I'd be delighted if someone came in and offered £40m for him, I really would and then we can move on.

However, you may be right in saying that the most likely deal would involve a player swap.

Agree with Doombear. We should accept £40m without hesitation. Not that it is likely to be offered. Wilf has been disappointing for a while and his value plummets by the month. He wouldn't start for any of the 'Big Six' (as in ESL) and in the current climate I can't see any of them paying £40m to put him on the bench. There is a case to be made that he would be dynamite if surrounded by better players, but I'm not convinced.
The problem is that he is THE iconic Palace player and the statistics concerning how we perform when he isn't playing are indeed damning. But it could equally be said that we are too reliant on him and that it is indeed time to move on. Some of his performances towards the end of the season should have seen him subbed or even dropped, but he's never been judged by the same standards as other Palace players, perhaps with good reason.

Agreed. He should have been dropped ages ago. He needs to realise who pays has wages and start earning them. Arsenal must have been delighted the other week. They spent a fortune on Pepe in stead of Zaha and were vindicated. He has come good and is younger and keen while Wilf did very little but whined all through the 90 minutes. This summer may show him that his dream of European football and winning trophies is just that, a dream. His only hope is that Chelski decide to go for him as they may win something before he is past it.

I wonder if his team mates are beginning to get fed up with his attitude. Eze always looked for him but it was notable in the last few games that Townsend got more of the ball and the days of “give it to Wilf” may be over.

Here we go again...

'Sell him! Drop him! Make him take a pay cut! Sell him for scrap value! I don't like his body language! I don't like his facial expression when someone else scores!'

Last season he was our top scorer, top assist provider, and best player. Yet again.

And yes, he was miles and miles better than Eze, who has potential but at the moment seems to excel largely against Sheffield United.

Rule out Spurs, waiting on new manager.
ditto Everton, sure Ancelotti doesn't want him and his own position may be in jeopardy

I think this has moved beyond facial expressions. Wilf is arguably still our best player (although only if you ignore recent performances), but he doesn't want to be at Palace and has publicly stated this. Football isn't just about stats and points on the board. I got more joy this season from Mitchell scoring his first goal with his shoulder than anything Wilf did, even if in the grand scheme of things his contribution on paper was a fraction of Wilf's. Of course we shouldn't give him away for peanuts, but equally I think it would be detrimental to keep him tied up under the holmesdale. Each to his own, but don't act like your opinion is superior just because people have the audacity to question Wilf's future role at the club.

Everton
Arsenal

On assists, he was joint 5th with 2, same as McArthur who played 12 games less. Eze, Townsend, Ayew and Schlupp got more. [Link]

Knock everyone's penalties off and he isn't top scorer.

According to whoscored he wasn't our best player - [Link]

Zaha had a really fast start. 4 goals and 0 assists in his last 21 games paints a different story, a fairly concerning one.

You're entitled to your opinion, and undeniably he's a good player. However, based on his form in the last 6 months there is a very valid question around taking £40m for a guy who is 29 in November vs getting that form of the last 6 months for another 2 years and him going for free.

Wilf is due for sale if we want to make money, but given our precarious position I would be inclined to keep him for the duration of his contract and let him walk for nothing.
He might even sign a new contract due to the lack of suitable clubs. Who the hell thinks going to Everton or Spurs is a good if you want to win something?

I suspect a lot will depend on whom we bring in and the mentality of our board.
