Gary Cahill also has 83% passing accuracy, 1 goal and 1assist. Passing accuracy is a pointless f***ing stat if the passes are going sideways and backwards.

Why don’t you take a look at JWP on your new favourite website?

Similar teams, both are primary set piece takers and captains so will likely play most games.

87% passing accuracy, 7 assists and 8 goals. Can not stand him as a player but he is miles ahead of Luka is every facet of the game.

For avoidance of doubt, I peruse a plethora of websites and don't have a "New favourite website".

My 'Link' was in response to comments apropos Milivojevic's passing prowess. I am not of the opinion that an 83% pass success rate over 27 games and over 1300 passes indicates that he has a severe lack of passing ability.

I accept he is not a Glenn Hoddle but the ability to regularly pass to a team-mate, even though the passes might not be too adventurous at times is a good quality to possess.

My opinion is that overall, Milivojevic has been more influential in previous seasons.

He certainly has. No one is denying that. But to write him off is premature. He's shown time and time again the ability to split defences with great passes or hit great diagonals to the wings. He hasn't suddenly lost that ability...he's just lost a bit of form. (Also hard to demonstrate your ability on the ball with an overall team possession rate of 20 - 30 every game.

Bottom line for me:

Luka Milivojevic is a decent player.
His form has dropped this season. We don't know why.
But we've seen enough previously to know what he can offer and it's worth seeing if a different manager and a fresh season can get it out of him.

There appears to be some level of boredom, so I’ll throw this one out. Clearly not the player he was, but why?
Used to be tidy. Didn’t give the ball away and made useful interceptions. However this season and maybe the back half of the last his form has dipped.
Is he just an ‘overpayed player’. Has he lost interest. Has he spent too much time with his mate at Fulham, or is the captaincy proving a burden? He missed the last few games, and there was mention of some family issues.
More importantly will his form return. If not does he have a value.

Jairo Riedewald happened to Luka. It must be like carrying a bag of sand on his shoulder.

And when Jairo wasn’t in the team? I believe Jairo has started 19 games to Luka’s 31. So not necessarily Jairo’s fault but as you have made it quite clear you don’t think Jairo should be anywhere near the squad, I suppose it is as good an excuse as any

I don’t believe Luka has played 31 bad games this season. There is a massive drop in his quality when Jairo plays beside him.

Could the ex managers rigid positional tactics not be a reason for lukas dip in form?

Maybe not a bag of sand but yes he has had to look after his less experienced team mate in the heat of battle . Roys two in the middle ,often up against 3 hasnt helped either nor I would suggest has the effects of the covid .

All things put together (along with the stress of family issues ,whatever they are ) and its no wonder we have not seen the best Luka on show .

And we still need a striker

Add to that the vitriol he has been given by a large number of Palace fans...Luca’s got a captain’s ego and would thrive better on encouragement rather than a slagging off IMO

Personally I'd put Milivojevic in the same category as the likes of Benteke and Townsend:

It's easy, and often fair, to slate them for poor performance standards.

They have shown that they can be good players in this league.

There seems to be a correlation between effort and contract length which is at best unfortunate.

A new manager might breath new life into them, or just bin them off.

Replacing them with a player as good is not as easy as we might like.

He appeared so BORED with tactics expected to play under Roy and it put too much pressure on the defensive midfielders, with no creative midfielder as an outlet..

Very likely it could be management, not that I wish to point the finger. Was excellent under Sam but then slowly dwindled over time.

Agree. The defensive mids under a Roy regime are on a hiding to nothing.
