In this fine nit picking tradition.

Europe is not the EU.

I know that wasn't explicitly claimed, though unspoken the implication could be implied. It's a bug bear so forgive me for stating:

The UK is in Europe, for example....it is a European country, however it isn't in the EU and nor has their ever been a time when every European country was apart of the EU.

On the contrary, looks like you've swallowed hook, line and sinker. Still, at least you've had a free geography lesson, primary level info for you but you have to start somewhere.

When measuring land areas you use physical land masses and the EU is a trading bloc, not a recognised 'land mass'. I'm fully aware of the difference between the EU and Europe, not sure that you have a real grip on that difference. There seems to be a big lack of basic geographical knowledge on this forum but maybe that's par for the course here.

Going back to the original point that was raised by mr jiminez that most EU countries can be driven 'across' in 45 mins, maybe it's better if you point out to him that he's wrong as he doesn't seem to accept the facts that I posted. I understand that might be difficult for you to do.

So why then, when discussing the eu specifically (4.2m sq km), did you quote a figure for the whole of Europe (10.2m sq km)?

The EU isn't a country, it's a trading block. Europe is a physical land mass. So you agree that any EU member state can be driven across in 45 mins?

This was merely my attempt at sarcasm, but still holds true when you can fit most EU countries into say somewhere like Alaska or Texas & not find them again.

This conversation was about the size of the EU, not Europe. You posted irrelevant data for the whole of the continent.

And to answer your question, I live in France and am aware of its size.

The 'conversation' was about driving across most EU countries in 45 mins. So, can you drive across France or 'most' other EU countries in 45 mins?

No, you can’t. But as I never said you could, I’m not sure why you need me to answer.

If you recognise the difference, of which I'm sure you were aware, why use 'Europe' as an example, when EU countries were used in the original comment....still it wasn't the point being made.

I expect the answer is that the 'Europe' demographical answer is far easier to find on Google.

It's certainly true that I have bias towards those closer to my political tribe. I'm not on here making a claim of true objectivity....and it's not as though this is an important point of difference is it.

Anyway, I've already implied that you were accurate just as I have said that it's all a bit pedantic.

Not really, it's all about being correct and admitting that fact when facts are presented supporting that 'correct' viewpoint. The problem is that some on here can't even admit they are wrong when black & white facts are put right in front of them such as the impossibility of 'driving across most EU countries in 45 mins'.

There seems to be some difficulty in appreciating hyperbole being used for throwaway comic effect as well.
