Really? he was Punished then as a small-time county player - which is what he was at the time. He most likely issued an apology back then - but he was so small time, neither was big news[the indiscretion or the apology]. I'd imagine he thought that the episode was behind him, and he can move on.. ensuring that he learned from his mistakes.

The ECB should have said 'He was punished at the time, deeply regrets his actions and has learnt from them'.
maybe also that they are taking steps to educate all members of the cricketing world so another teenager doesn't fall foul of the same media orgasm.

You are incorrect, Robinson was sacked by Yorkshire for unprofessional conduct but it was not related to his tweets at all.

fair enough, just read up that Yorkshire said;
"There’s been three serious acts of misconduct, I would say, and then a string of less major incidents which in themselves wouldn’t be too serious.

“But when they are all added together cumulatively, it just got to a point where myself and the support staff have had enough really."

tweets could have been part of that. who knows.

As I said, I am sure he will get forgiveness if he proves he has genuinely changed

He plays for Sussex which has more black players than any other county and they should be able to testify whether he is a racist or not

Have they found any dead bodies yet?

Since racism is more often a case of what people say rather than do it’s probable that his white teammates would have a better idea.

How do you know it wasn't one of the issues.

They mentioned several issues without clarifying them.

He spoke about going drinking with his mates in the South, then driving up North for training and matches. Often late. Plus he didn't like pigeon fanciers, which was probably a deal breaker.

All the agenda is going to be off loaded on this guy.

Robinson is probably already regretting being picked for England. The fact that he's been up there as the best English pace bowler for a couple of years means little now.

Apparently you have to be passed by Panasar, Carberry and Ramprakash.

Carberry saying Robinson should never play professional cricket again! Who the hell does he think he is? He has had his career so now wants to wreck someone else’s, t***.
Wonder how many of the people calling for extreme action against him and not accepting his apology, believe we should allow Shamima Begum back? Well she has apologised and was only a teenager when she went

But in truth it's now going to be really hard for him as it will always look false and just like he is cynically trying to get back his position

If he were a decent sort he would have realised earlier that this needed some serious atonement.

What should the ECB do then? His tweets were directed at its largest demographic and its targeted new audience. Couldn't really be much worse for it.

I am sure they will find a way for him to claw his way back but it will need to be a long haul approach not a sticking plaster.

And as far as suspending him goes, Useless Eustice obviously doesn't understand how disciplinary processes work. It is just standard when someone is under disciplinary investigation.

I have no time for genuine racism, but from looking at his tweets they insulted numerous groups and the clear intention was just to shock and be juvenile rather than any kind of hatred or dislike of anyone.

Considering his age, and the time that's passed I'd say that the onus is on others (rather than him) to prove that he still engages in such behaviour, and that shouldn't be difficult to ascertain. I get why an apology is important in the context of a team sport especially, but think it should be viewed more as embarrassing than character or career defining. If people are going to behave in ways that they later regret I'd say that 18 is a common age to do so. Ten years later they're often not the same person.

Ten years ago, and often even now I don't think people truly understand the gravity of public statements and social media, so certainly in that regard education wouldn't go amiss. But we should learn to separate genuine and unhelpful prejudices from sh!t teenage jokes. They're not the same thing.

Some have stated that there have been other issues with his conduct, so maybe there's more to this, but I don't think any conclusions should be drawn on the basis on tweets made a decade ago. It seems absurd to hold people to account for these things as if they said them yesterday. Should we not instead be pleased that he apparently stopped behaving in such a way ten years back?
