Soaking up the rays this morning, trying to get Nuno off my mind, reading a James Patterson with a cold beer on the side. I reached a part where our hero was at an address on East 84th Street, off Third Avenue.

It got my attention because, silly I know, their street names and numbers are one of the things I like about America. Some will remember 77 Sunset Strip on TV. I was a big fan of Kookie and the address always fascinated me. One time on holiday in America I drove around looking for 77. Not there. That road is 22 miles long.

I like the fact that folk are very patriotic and they fly the Stars and Stripes at every opportunity. I dislike, and disagree with, their gun laws.

It's also a country of contradictions. A 16 year old can drive a big Chevy, an 18 year old can buy an AK-47 but it's not until they're 21 that they can go in a bar for an ice cold Bud. How wierd is that?

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to live there. I'm happiest here in England.

But there are lots I like about America and some things I don't like.

How about you?

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

A couple of years ago we decided to spend 5 days in NY, as my son studied Musical Theatre and wanted to see a Broadway show. Myself and the boss were not enamoured with the idea but felt NY is one of those places you should visit, didn’t think we would particularly enjoy it. Wrong absolutely loved and could have stayed longer. Found a good value hotel not far from MSG. Was surprised how small Time Square seemed and how less congested than London it appeared which was weird.Ground Zero very poignant. We will return as soon as possible.
The show we saw was Book of Mormon, brilliant

Free speech is never perfect but I think the US have the best laws on protecting expression in the world. But they need to do a better job on ensuring corporations aren't abusing those laws.

I have mixed feelings about the gun laws.

I have mixed feelings over the healthcare laws.

I want them to relent and start using English spelling.

But in total, I believe in transatlanticism and our cousins across the pond.

Morning drinking?

Are you an alcoholic by chance?

I dislike the use of 'America' when 'United States of America' or 'USA' is what's being referred to. 'America' is a large land mass incorporating many nations.

Ooh blimey. Get you. I think most knew what I meant.

Anyway, maybe there are some things about Mexico you like. Fajitas for instance. Go on, tell us. Broaden the topic. OK by me.

Sorry, no offence meant. You were merely reflecting the common usage of the word.

Mexico is a tricky one, but going back to the spirit of the topic; having visited the US D-Day memorial and cemetery in Normandy, I like the fact that those guys were on our side on that day and in that conflict.

They certainly helped us win WW2, an incredible ally of ours. Although in some films you'd think they won it on their own.

They've also thrown their troops into other conflicts around the world, always with the intention of keeping the world safe for you and I.

i remember that documentary about the bloke who cycled around the World.

going South-East from London, through Iran, india etc.... the interesting part of the docu ?

all his problems started when he got to the US. Druggy behaviour all around him, people driving like lunatics, evenings at Drive-in Motels with druggy madness all around and about.

India, Greece, Japan...ancient traditional countries have culture, laws and order.

the US is a lunatic asylum, a million cultures all thrown together last week.

the 'Net-We-had' at the Etihad....again
