All that DF mea culpa was bordering on the vomit inducing. Looked like aPR stunt to get him acceptable to fan base.

Club legend , yes to a degree, potentially good PL manager, not IMHO.

Can see it though, with Shaun Derry playing the Lewington role.

I thought exactly the same about the documentary. Enjoyed the coverage but not many of the interviews to be honest.

He may know the club, but no. Walked out on Palace, failed at Bolton, Failed at Forest. If there is a desire to appoint an ex palace player, then why not go for Southgate, Popovic or Coleman. Personally I don't want any of them back but seeing Dougie in the dug out, NEVER

Absolutely. In my opinion he’s only being flagged now following what seemed to me to be a thinly veiled attempt to raise his profile in the documentary. I suspect the club know he’s not a fans favourite any more.
Southgate is another who is simply not good enough, nor is Coleman.
Knowing the club inside out does not give you the ability to scout, build, coach, set up, motivate and secure results from a premier league team. It does, however, give you the ability to know where the stationery cupboard is.

My pet hobby horse.

Chairman (of any football club) "This is a great club with a great history and special fans. We need a manager who understands this."

Me "so what exactly is special about your club? the fans want to win with attractive football? And the other 91 clubs don't?"

Just get the best man for the job you can, if he is successful he will create new history for the club.

heres a possibility..
parish appoints dougie manager on a temp 'see how it goes basis' while watching to see if southgate fails to get out the group stage & becomes available.
either way not good

It was a one sided point of view they features only a handful of people on it.

If you had listened Dougie gave a list of players he wanted the list could of come from anyone he didn't hand select everyone of those players himself.

How do you know he didn’t? It is possible he didn’t but nobody outside the inner circle knows. I am sure the poster did listen tbf

God no. You’re right with “either way not good.”
Why would we accept sub-standard managers? Coopers win percentage far exceeds either of these two. He may not be everyone’s choice but Freedman hasn’t managed in the PL either and has a very poor success rate and Southgate was a dreadful club manager with an awful record.

That’s a bit like going home from a club on a Saturday night with a good 20-pinter and then dumping her the next week for her identical twin sister. (Or Brother - to avoid sexism claims).

I think there are some 'special features' of Palace that any prospective manager would need to be aware of and be comfortable with.
The first, most obviously, is a tight transfer budget. We can't splurge millions on new signings.
Second, we are in a long-term build-and-consolidate phase where the priority is not to win things but to stay in the Prem while we build foundations others already have (Academy, new stand, etc).
Third, we do seem to have strength at under-18 and under-23 level. We need to nurture that and bring it to fruition.
Fourth, we will never be a fashionable club, and we are based in a very unfashionable part of south London. We are fighters, not artists.
Dougie knows all this. Dyche would understand it. Lampard might be attracyed to some of it (e.g. the youngsters). Note that all three of them are Brits, which probably helps.

Had a good run for 4 months in the championship but has failed miserably at every other lower league club he subsequently managed.

Hardly an eye watering cv.
