It’s time to let the handbrake off in this country. Keep the borders carefully policed and test in and out for the next 6 months, but restrictions have to stop domestically.

The ONS figures show no swamping of the NHS, the intensive care units have had an average of about 6 cases per day since end of March and other interesting stats include pneumonia being 10 times as deadly now as covid in terms of deaths and the average number of deaths in the last few months way below average.

It would appear the government’s tactics are to push us towards zero covid which is of course a pointless exercise. The scaremongering from the press and No10 needs to stop and business needs to get back to normal.

Hear Hear.
I wholeheartedly agree.

Sadly the Government has developed a bunker mentality,'Infected' by its own scare-mongering propaganda and the shroud-waving of SAGE.

The end of lockdown date was never guaranteed, and that was explained all along.

Pushing lifting restrictions back by a month is disappointing, but at the same time people are pretty much about to get on with life as normal now anyway..

There will be people who catch it between vaccines, or foolishly avoid them altogether, but the campaign as a whole has been a big success and will no doubt be a godsend when it comes to impact on hospitals and so on.

Goalposts moved and the Government has developed a bunker mentality infected by the doom-monger scientists shroud-waving.

It really is high time that the Government stops hiding behind flawed models and fearful messages. The real catastrophe is the timid surrender to the voices of hesitancy and anxiety.
Government in thrall to doom-laden scientists and keeping restrictions is not a cost-free option.

Vaccines are working, the vaccine programme continues at pace, so darned well stop kicking the can down the road.

If Johnson announces a longer delay today I'm not sure how he thinks the public are going to follow it....it's like frigging Turkey out there!

I'll be taking the family on a holiday break later today (somewhere in the country obvs) and I won't be back till the weekend.

Stay frosty peeps.

I don't disagree regarding the ever changing messaging; it is becoming farcical at this point. It's becoming very difficult to believe anything Johnson says because he's perpetually 'certain' of things he changes his mind on weeks later.

For large part a fair chunk of normality is back with us, and I don't see them rowing that back now (due to the vaccination campaign) so that's something at least. They may well kick the can down the road for another month, though I'm not sure what difference it will make to anything. I doubt with all restrictions lifted it'd spread significantly more than under the current rules anyway.

The vaccination campaign has done a good job at protecting the most vulnerable. To my mind that's about as good as it's going to get. It's going to be difficult to avoid getting covid at some point in time, so post vaccination there's little point trying to.

You must be in conflict because that is what you want. Complete safety, no risk. Has the rest of Europe escaped the current state of play? I think you and your friends have to man up for a change. Unfortunately Boris wants to appeal to your kind of thinking. He shouldn’t need to. His ratings compared to useless Keith Starmer remain high whatever.

Johnson always said that things could change if the scientific advice changed.

You clearly have selective hearing.
