What freedom of movement did was effectively dangle a carrot to people from poorer European countries. Come to the UK, sleep 4 to a room and then, in 5 years time, you will have enough money to buy your own house back in your home village. Saw it time and time again, first with Poles and then of late, Romanaians. Now I have zero problem with Poles and Romanains who did this. I believe that for a variety of reasons the UK needs people to come and live here and I would have happily retrained freedom of movement, with a few tweaks here and there, whilst banning/or making bloody difficult, non-EU migration into the UK which I see as the biggest threat long term. But let's get one thing straight here. Freedom of movement allowed employees in the hospitality sector to get away with paying piss-poor wages. That simple. And now it has to change.
