PV was well down my list of expected candidates.

If he does have the job, the sooner he applies himself the better. There's a bit of a mess to sort out.

I wonder if it'll make Wilf reconsider?

Whatever the best of luck to PV - we'll need it.

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

Do we want him though? There were a lot on here saying he should go so we could use the sale money to buy new players.

Anyhow, you're jumping the gun to wish PV luck. There's still been no official announcement.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

I'd like Wilf to stay. He's really good at football.

Of all the names mentioned along the way this is the worst.

Cooper is talented, so is Ismael, Howe, Wilder, Dyche has Premier League experience, even Lampard has.

Knowing Roy would eventually retire, Palace have had more time for planning than most other clubs. Still we end up in chaos.

The lack of competence in this area in our club is nothing less than shocking!

On the positive side Vieira will most likely be gone nearly as soon as de Boer - eg after 0 points in the 5 opening games - and BFS comes in saving us (again), playing decent football (again).

I agree totally with your comments.

There's lots to sort out but you just know they'll faff about until the window closes. We'll drag ourselves along in the bottom four until end January, and then miss out again.

Absolutely anyone coming into Palace is on a loser straight from start.

Multiple players out of contract
An aging squad
No Eze for 6 months
Wilf wants out again
Limited transfer funds

That's why Favre turned us down rather than his polite excuse to have more time out of the game.

I am hoping Vieira can use his Arsenal connections to help get players in. I am quite prepared to give him a chance if he definately comes in.

I cant possibly think he can be as bad as some previous managers. Alan Smith being the absolute worst in my memory.

A tactical analysis of how Viera set up Nice to play:

[Link]

Very interesting read and a few and a few things sprung to my mind. you can see some of the current squad fitting into it:

CB

`Dante is slower but is more secure with his passes. That is why he is mainly in charge of making the long passes and passes between the opponent’s midfield` = Cahill or Tomkins

`On the other hand, Danilo relies less on his passing but more on his progressive runs. He is naturally a centre-midfielder, but Vieira put him as centre-back even though he sometimes plays as centre-midfielder. With this, Vieira is looking for a centre-back who handles the ball well and can drive with the ball to the opponent.` = Think we can expect to see Kouyate at CB, but this role could bring the best out of him.

Attacking

`In attack, there are two main strategies they use. The first one is making the striker Kasper Dolberg drop down and receive the ball. After this, Dolberg can turn and pass it to one of the wings, as the opponents must have moved more to the middle with him receiving the ball.`= Can see this system working well with Tekkers as the striker, holding up ball and playing it to Wilf and Eze (when fit etc) working a lot narrower, something they could both do.

all good points, other than your last one.

If Vieira is confirmed as our new manager he will definitely not start with 3 CBs as FdB did.
Under BFS i thought we played some shocking football at times. The occasional good results shouldn't overshadow that

Hammering Arsenal 3-0 was good though.

Interesting read. Cheers.

The part about defence is slightly concerning but I can see what you mean with the players you've highlighted.

For me whoever is manager, unless we've got at least 3 new (improved) additions to the starting lineup then we'll be screwed (CB,RB, Winger/ attacking mid).

Our speed of player recruitment this summer is going go be key... let's pray it's a little speedier than our recruitment of a manager.

Yeah, it's a more difficult opportunity than some. So what? It's also one of only 20 jobs managing a team in the best league in the world, and a team in London itself at that. Most people I work with who are successful back themselves to succeed no matter what. I imagine football managers are the same. The Palace job is tough, but it's nowhere near as bad a situation as you're making out. A good manager with a sound plan is going to see the opportunities, not the negatives. A manager who sees only the negatives is not someone I want at Palace.

Vieira has paid his dues and is qualified for the job. Whether he'll be successful or not only time will tell but if he's got an appetite to come to Selhurst and meet the challenge and believes he can build success at Palace, that's a damn good start and I'm behind him 100%.

The truth is that Roy was eminently qualified and did a good job keeping us up for the past four years. But I'm not sure I could endure another season of the s*** that was dished out regularly last year. I've nothing but respect for the man, but I'm also ready for a new, exciting, unknown start. And if we do get relegated next season, we'll still be Palace and we'll still be at Selhurst. I support Palace, not who we play.
