....they do things differently there.

Imagine living in a World where...

- very few people get to be very elderly
- most adults you know are either married or in religious orders

- if you needed to travel 300 miles, you may well walk the journey
- most of the food you consume was produced within a 20 mile radius of your home

- tons of kids everywhere, many of them dying every year.
- you can listen to live music or no music.

...really the objective here is to illustrate how insane our current 'normal' is. By contrasting it with the normal for most of human history.

Focussing on anytime from the first appearance of Homo Sapiens up to about 1900 AD & the carbon age please. A history you know existed but never saw.

''The World your grandparents were born into has more in common with the World of Julius Caesar than it does with your World'' Alvin Toffler 1970 ...to paraphrase.

Yes, when you think how things used to be done and how things are today it makes you realise how easy we have it. I was getting a tad angst the other day, as boiler wasn"t working, had to wash in cold water, from the tap! Then I thought about my ancestors years ago, they had to go to a well half a mile across fields with a bucket just to get water, then carry a full bucket back through muddy bogland. Imagine doing that in the winter! It made me feel not so bad about my cold wash!

- a family walking through the streets on market day, the parents casually hitting their kids.

- couples both being virgins on their wedding night

- streets filled with animal manure

- most people not knowing what the King/PM/Leaders/Bishops etc actually look like.

- Possible Death Sentence = Appendicitis, toothache , wrong religious views, got an unmarried girl preggers, cracking a rude joke about the Royal family.

- indifference to animal cruelty & enjoying watching bloodsports.

Eating everything on your plate before you can 'get down'. That sometimes meant being the only person left sitting at the table after everyone had finished.
They had all enjoyed a nice pudding as well.
You were still staring at your cold congealed overcooked cabbage or sprouts in fatty gravy! Yuk.
But you weren't going to give in!
Well not until 35 minutes had gone by as your backside was getting numb and you needed the loo!!!!

Ha ha, yeh, times were a lot harder back then, but by the amount of moaning on here you would never know YT.

small skinny scrawny chickens. Organic free-range and lacking any chemicals or artificial hormones.

What passes today for a chicken ? probably unrecognisable to most of our predecessors.

newspaper, cut into squares.
soap you could club a mammoth to death with.

Kids, tired of being bothered by your pesky parents?
Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.

Wasn’t it great?
Counting up Kensitas coupons and Green Shield stamps.
Not answering the door when the man from the Pru or the tally man came round.
Clamping the mincing machine to the kitchen table to grind up left over meat to have with bubble & squeak.
Bread pudding.
The pools man wanting his 22p.
