Thanks DB, early season syndrome

Don't know about you, thought the lads looked so comfortable in the 2nd half & playing a EFL side. Methinks its going to be an interesting season to come, really looking forward to it.

As a Yank, I'm especially grateful for Eagleman's link to our first goal of the Patrice Vieira-era! It worked.

Here's hoping it's the first of many: for Wilf, to keep him enthused; and for the squad, to give them (and us) hope for the future.

The lads played OK but their passing and movement wasn't as sharp, quick or accurate as the 1st team guys hence they gave the ball away too often and allowed Walsall more into the game. Having said that they managed (just) to keep a clean sheet in that 2nd half and I thought Rak_Sakyi looked very promising.

The lads, like the 1st team, are having to learn PV's new system (which looked the kind I will enjoy going to watch) and it will take them more time because in the main (Rak_Sakyi excepted) they aren't as skilful as the 1st team yet. I thought the CB O'Brien was pretty solid apart from the positioning mistake for that late chance that hit the bar.

Not yet, I think he has another year. Also, according to Brighty, Jach had a good season in Poland with his team winning their FA Cup and finishing runners-up in the league.

He was fine today in the 2nd half alongside the lads. He may surprise us yet in the new system.

Can't recall it being mentioned (or I was asleep).

Everything considered the first half was decent, considering it was first time out for all , and first time for months on end for a couple , added to that Walsall, were quiet competitive , in keeping us out , for most of the half. The kids had their hands full dealing with a bunch of seasoned pro,s , that had shown their physical ability in the first half, but quiet honestly grew into it, and I thought , were the better side after bedding in and getting to grips with the physical side. Should have scored, and one slip in defence that should have cost them, but generally the kids showed a lot of promise for me.

I know he only played 25 minutes but I thought the 17 year old Wells-Morrison looked promising... Had a real eye for a pass.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Pass to our own team mates & drive forward

Sorry i say that in jest. It appeared to me, be comfortable in passing out from the back, BUT, getting the ball forward asap. Lose possesion, regroup, win ball back & start again.

All good signs of course, but we should be very cautious drawing any conclusions. Several times over the years I've seen pre season games where we passed it around lovely, only to revert to the long ball, or ultra conservative tactics in league football.

Like most, I would presume that Vieira is using these friendly games to impart his system of play, but he could just as easily be using the games to assess the players, before deciding on his tactics once he knows what the players can and can't do.
