No doubt there is quality. Guehi looks to be a decent signing. Olise when he is fit could have a similar impact like Eze.

Having players like Eze, Olise, Benteke means goals and assists can come from other areas rather than just relying on Zaha. However, I still think Palace do need at least three more signings.

Definitely a striker to make compete with Benteke (someone like Adam Armstrong could be a good signing and is a realistic option.) Another creative player/winger is required Matheus Pereira would be perfect knows the Premiership can score and assist.

An attacking midfielder maybe e.g. Someone like Loftus Cheek. Left back should be okay Mitchell and Hannam could both do well at that role.

Do you think top 10 is a possibility currently? How many more signings and who do you think would be ideal to make this possible?

Anything is possible, but all these changes may well take time to gel. The next question is can PV be the man to lead us there? Let us all hope and pray our future is bright.

Southampton would like him to replace Ings if,as expected,Ings departs.
Armstrong has scored 44 goals in the last 2 seasons.

It,s always possible we could develop a team that gains a top ten position,. Not so likely one that adapts and stays there year in year out.
The biggest problem with either scenario in MHO is if it involves us in European competition , because it would seem the club has some way to go before it could afford a squad big enough and good enough to cope with both Premier league and Europe.

I think it depends on whether or not we can develop some gems from the academy as we can't afford to keep buying quality players unless we sell on some of the ones we already have.

The new stand would help

When you look at how much Everton had to spend to finish tenth last season, and they had Ancelotti at the helm, it shows the size of the task. For me it is not about position in the league (providing that position is outside the bottom three) it is about being competitive and providing some entertainment. If we take the German approach and look to attract the best young talent with a clear path to the first team then I think we have a bright future.

The idea of Wilf, Eze and Olise all in the same starting line-up will surely have created arousal even amongst the most prudish of supporters.

we seem to have ripped the heart out of our squad.

History has shown that it is extremely difficult to create a working squad from a large number of newbies. No matter how expensive and talented all these newbies are.

top ten ? yeah sure, but not in this league.

the 'Net-We-had' at the Etihad....again

Unlikely, one good season and he will just go to a bigger club.

I'm not sure I entirely agree that we've ripped the heart out looking at the people who've left so far:

PVA, Townsend, Cahill are the main one I guess, but all over thirty now!

Hennessy, Sahko, Wickham, Dann, McCarthy: not particularly bothered for various reasons.

Now, admittedly we do still need cover, otherwise we'll be short if injuries/suspensions bite

... what

Pardon?
- Hennessey 3rd choice keeper
- Henderson 4th choice keeper
- Sakho serial treatment room attendee last 2 years
- Wickham serial treatment room attendee - period.
- McCarthy part time squad player
- Dann slow and past it
As for the others:
- PvA wanted out and I suspect wouldn't have accepted the reduced terms arising from the rebased wage structure in any case
- Townsend would have been nice had he stayed but his price for staying was more than the club were prepared to pay
- Cahill possibly like Townsend but not fully known yet
- Clyne = emergency cover brought in because of the Ferguson situation and may yet sign a deal

I don't see the above as the heart of our squad last year. Rather it was:
- Guaita
- Ward
- Tomkins
- Milivojevic
- McArthur
- Kouyate
- Riedewald
- Schlupp
- Ayew
- Zaha
- Benteke
plus the youngsters:
- Mitchell
- Eze.
AS I've suggested on another thread I suspect we will start the season with the first XI comprising most of the above with the only new members being Guehi (and even he might only start on the bench against Chelsea) and possibly a new wide player.

Everton are very bad at spending money.

It wouldn't be impossible, but maybe we should aim for just a top half finish or a cup run first.

Next season giving some of the youngsters chance decent exposure to premiership football would be enough and start building a platform on that once they have experience at this level.

I'm not so sure. I think he will be enthused by the project of bringing youth through and may well stay for at least 3 years if we manage to stay in the PL this season.
