I just searched on Google. Of the first 7 websites claiming knowledge, 2 didn't list Clyne, 2 more listed him being on £19k a week with the top wage quoted at £80k a week. I suspect that the £80k is what he was on at Liverpool and the rest is pure guesswork. I can't see Parish offering him over £30k/£40k a week, which may be why he doesn't appear to have signed a new contract. We do need a mixture of experience and youth, I'd be happy for Clyne to stay another season if a deal can be done. that sounds more realistic - thanks. I'm guessing it was c£20k upfront and a big extra per game played/won/clean sheet etc. Agents often roll up all potential bonuses and include this in the single figure quoted to make it as high as possible.

Liked what I saw of Clyne last season, and he improved game by game. Hope he signs up for two more years. he only played 13 league games last season, the last of which was the 3.0 home defeat by Burnley in Feb. If anything i thought he started ok but got worse the more games he played. Ward was definitely preferred in the last 2 to 3 months of the season (although Clyne did have the odd injury during this period). I have no issue offering a 1 year deal on a smaller basic, plus bonuses structure but i expect a few injuries will disrupt his season as it did last year

Does anyone have any clue of the status of Clyne? We've gone beyond the time when any new RB could be integrated for Chelsea and he has had the lion's share of preseason minutes. I assume we'd need a contract of some sort in place before Chelsea if he were to play or even be part of the bench. Maybe not. Don't know how that works. Edited by Omph (04 Aug 2021 9.40pm)

Let's hope he's not a patsy for our defensive errors.

Gotta luv click bait. I saw this headline "Crystal Palace consider signing 30-year-old, he’s been spotted at the training ground" Wow so who is the mystery man? They mean Clyne, duh considering he's played in our friendlies it's hardly a surprise that he's been seen at the training ground, probably been in Sainsbury's as well.

And Waitrose in Beckenham not far from the training ground !

I really hope we get Clyne over the line, if we haven't already? Certain suits the way it appears Vieira wants to play - more than Wardy in my view. I know his wages are high but I cant see us having the cash to pay a fee and wages for an alternative.

I agree. I hope (and think) that a big part of what the club are doing this summer is not only lowering the average player age but also bringing structure and meritocracy to the wage bill. If Clyne was ever truly getting 80k a week from Palace then it was because of the wages he was on at Liverpool before we signed him, which was his last known market value, in a way. Part of Parish' gamble has been to let senior players contracts run down in the belief (and hope) that they will find that the market now values them less than it did when they signed those contracts with us. By and large that's worked. If Clyne had been offered 40k pw four months ago he may well have rejected it out of hand as he was already on 80k. As of now however, he's on zero, and there doesn't seem to be any great stampede of clubs wanting to offer him the kind of money he was used to. We offer 40k now and we're not halving his wages, we're offering him what he can see is a good deal in this market. Well played SP. Clyne and the club are plainly open to a new deal and believe one to be likely, or he wouldn't be playing in pre season. I expect him to start at Chelsea. I'm not in the know but I heard that there was a big appearance amount for Clyne but not much of a basic. I think it was around 35k, going up to 60 with win and clean sheet. So a basic of around 35 with bonuses should be around right. I can't see anyone queueing up to offer much more. It was kind of short term pay as you play. It will have to be negotiated into a normal, say, two year contract.

Also- if I remember correctly Clyne came back to us on a freebie ( no transfer fee paid to another club because he was out of contract) so there was more money to consider for his wage (salary & structure) Originally posted by TheBigToePunt

Edited by TheBigToePunt (05 Aug 2021 11.54pm) i am pretty sure Clyne was not on £80k at Palace last season, this would have been his wage at Liverpool (when he was an England intnl). Whatever deal he signed would have been performance linked as his injury record was a concern. He did have a few injuries, particularly the 2nd half of the season, so the performance element would have made sense for Palace. I suspect Palace are offering similar terms this year - maybe £20k basic, £20k per appearance plus win and clean sheet bonuses. All players are on a staying up bonus too
