The only thing you are likely to get eating in India is food poisoning. 90% of India is a s*** hole.
I once lived next door to an Indian restaurant and out the back was disgusting. The smell at times was horrendous at times.

30 years ago, I once accompanied a hygiene inspector around a number of restaurants, some of which were Indian. One Indian I remember had a filthy toilet cubicle, with no door, actually in the kitchen where food was being prepared. Quite shocking.
I shan't name it, but it was in Beckenham. I had eaten in there on a number of occasions.
For balance, I also saw a restaurant kitchen in Peckham which was not Indian, that was beyond belief in terms of its appalling state.

In short, I'd be more worried about the s*** we are served up for extortionate prices rather than terminology.

I don't like to look at the world through this prism if I can avoid it, but what was the ethnic demographic of the Peckham sh*thole - surely it wasn't a pie and mash shop?

Curry itself is actually a recipe that originates in India. The Indian food we eat over here is very different to what Indians eat over there as genetically they are able to tolerate spicy hot dishes better than what we can in the UK.

Curry essentially was created in India but when the Indians came over to the UK and set up their restaurants they gave us curry to suit our palate. Over time things have evolved and Vindaloo and Phal have come into existence over here. As curry was the main dish here at first the terms has just stuck so that is why we hear the term curry house but as you know when you visit an Indian restaurant there is much more than curry on the menu.

Hope this helps and explains it a bit for you.

ghost, not splittin hairs, but vindaloo is a genuine dish(maybe not the name ) has a portugese influence.
Phall I tend to agree with you, but again possibly just the name.
its regional.
A guy i know(indian) wont eat certain dishes from certain restuarants as he considers them ' not suitable '- regionally, to cook that particular dish.

Kids, tired of being bothered by your pesky parents?
Then leave home, get a job & pay your own bills, while you still know everything.

I suppose our equivalent would be Cornish puddings or Yorkshire pasties.

we don't want to know what was on the menu, we do want to know from which part of the world the cuisine of said menu did herald ... Chinese? most likely ... Kebabs? 2nd favourite, or maybe it's just what Peckham does to people.

English stuff I think, although I can't remember the nationality of the people who ran it. What I do remember are the hundreds of cockroaches.

Sounds like they were probably white British then; no wonder you forgot about it .

Yum. I'm sat here eating a couple of custard creams and now they taste even worse than they already did!
