I think for me the main issue I have is that foreign investors tend to have diverse goals/intentions.

Take Roman at Chelsea and the City owners. They wanted sporting success where the cost didn’t matter. They bought it and once they had it, they made sure to solidify their position for future success.

Then there’s the owners at Leicester who I believe to be a bit of an anomaly. Great success, great model, didnt buy their titles…they earned it.

Then there are all the other foreign owners. The type to see clubs as a future investment. Plough 90m in today and one day get back 200m for your shares. All they have to do is stay in the Prem every year and each year their investment grows in its worth until one day a new bumper TV deal is agreed that makes the club a great return. But these owners tend to prefer security over a push for honours. Keeping the status quo is more important than winning something…but let’s be honest that’s not easy to do.

Perhaps none of these situations to most palace fans are too distasteful. I’ve always been happy to stay up…that’s me being honest. I’d love a good cup final again mind!

These guys are not going to buy us success. They may not even build something, build a club model, something to guarantee future success. They will only invest their money in ventures they considered

Better to have investment than none at all, good thing for our club.

While I like the romance of being a plucky community club if we have to turn to foreign investment I'd rather it be an American who made his money in films than some dodgy Saudi Prince or Russian oil baron. I do share the concerns about Americans having too much of an influence, but I think the Super League fiasco will at least have created pause for thought.

Today I saw a Leeds fan/journalist(?) once again rabbiting on about Gallagher's lack of ambition in choosing us. Right now we're probably showing more ambition than most and we seem to be doing it sensibly and with a clear plan.

Welcome aboard Mr Textor. May your heart be large and your pockets deep

Is that the same Leeds that we beat 4-1 last season?

I think the timing of the announcement signals the end of any more significant acquisitions. A lone signing to go but that’s it. Wouldn’t want to advertise additional funds pushing up the price of a player.

Let's not kid ourselves - we've rightly earned a rather unattractive label over the last few years that will take some some to shake off. Commentators and pundits struggled to say anything positive about our approach to football last season. Therefore not everyone is going to be in the position of optimistic cpfc fans who can see that this could be the start of a wholly more positive period in our history. Fingers crossed we can prove some people wrong and change some minds about what a small S London club can achieve.

I'm positive that we might be unexpected surprise package this season, but you're right that recent seasons have made us look somewhat unattractive to the neutral. I do hate the way after one season back in the PL Leeds' fans are acting as if they're a big club again. Take Biesla away and their squad really isn't that great and would likely struggle near the bottom.

Rudi was questioning in an earlier post exactly what shareholding Textor would have. It seems from reports that it will be the same 18% as the other three; hence, there has presumably been some dilution of shareholdings from other minority shareholders many of whom are US based from memory.
So, I assume c72% of the club will be owned by the 4 partners moving forward with the balance in the hands of minority investors.
One other aspect re the announcement that I thought was interesting was reference to the development of the ground which has gone very quiet over recent times no doubt reflecting the financial realities of Covid etc. If he can help move this project along, his investment could be really significant beyond the current injection of funds.

The failure of people to grasp the economics of the Premier League and thinking money just grows on trees. The majority of income goes on wages, fueled by agents and clubs wanting success.
Without the Americans initial investment a few years ago and financing the Allardyce window, we would be where clubs like Bolton, Middlesborough, Sunderland etc are now, buried in debt with little hope of returning.
I am surprised nobody thought to question, where to vaunted £80m transfer budget, suddenly appeared from. Letting a few contracts of old players expire, doesnt raise that amount of money. Textor was first mentioned in June, but the noise went quiet. Bringing him in, can only be good for the club, it spreads the finacial burden and another wealthy investor, who has a stake to lose, if we dont succeed. One thing wealthy Yanks dont like is losing their investment.

Spot on. That is why you do wonder why anybody would want to invest in the PL in the first place ? That said if this new investor wishes to have a stake then fair play. Can only see returns if for instance Palace get gifted a stadium like Wet Spam due to the ever increasing wage bills mentioned above. As mentioned if this can push our stadium project further then great.

Harris and Blitzer's background is in investments, and they appear to be hands off with all the companies they have come to own. It seems they provided the cash for the spending spree in January 2016, then have the capital to underwrite the construction of the new stand.

Textor, seems to be an innovator and has a similar background to Parish. Less money than Harris/Blitzer, but more of a hands on interest in helping grow the club.

We've spent a fair bit this window considering there's been no crowds for 18 months. I'd assume Textor has help put forward funds for this.

With clubs generally short on cash, now seems as good a time as any invest.

Well you wouldn’t be happy if you’re a minority shareholder and none of the majority shareholders have been squeezed.

Good post - totally agree.

I think a 4 way split in ownership will suit SP, who on the whole has been fantastic for our club. He doesn’t always get it right but he has earned my trust and this news is a positive indication of our ambition.
I haven’t been this excited for a season in a long time. COYP!

I don't think that it works that way as you can't issue shares to the major shareholders without offering them to the smaller shareholders too
