For me, our team/squad is still all about Zaha, exceptional player worth career trophies but STILL at Palace (till 30th August?) and I hope he stays. The touchpaper that lights up the fans and media BUT the club (£) and the manager (as team selector) have to build around Zaha, is that a good thing?

Scots for CPFC: McArthur Hopkin Freedman Cannon [most appearances ever] Queen McCormick Simpson [most goals ever]

Yes, and Barcelona had Messi. They just got further into debt relying on the memory of his past success.

Wilf is undoubtedly a fine player and one of the best in our history. But I am firmly of the opinion that we would now be better off without him. He shows flashes of his old form, but is far too easily aggravated by the opposition and his temperament lets him down. Whatever people may say, we still rely on him too much.

If we sold him PV could rebuild the team with a new player(s) bought with the proceeds of his sale.

The trouble is, nobody wants him.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

Its true what you say of course, But.. the big but now is we have Eze (accepting the fact he comes back the same player) and Olise I am massively excited about. We are in a much better place now than before. Wilf is King though, always.

Quite a trio if we can ever get them fit.

Not sure you can put Wilf and Messi in the same bracket

I wasn't really, only in relative terms. Messi at Barca. Wilf at Palace. Could add Ronaldo at Real. Too much emphasis on one player equals long term issues that's all. Just my POV. Plenty will disagree.

I fully agree, Wilf as great as he is prone more to sulking these days than being man-of-the-match. His recent ratings and performances have not been that great and I really do believe it would be better to let him go and rebuild around a team rather than one individual.

No way should we be building around Zaha. Rightly or wrongly, we have relied on him for too long.

Yes, he provides moments of magic and does score goals for us, some seasons more than others.

For me he is too inconsistent, and we all know his temperament can let him down, and these factors go a long way to explaining why there have been no serious offers for him.

How often in the last couple of seasons has he been considered "man of the match"? Not very often, which suggests his influence in games is not that great anymore.

I should add that I am not trying to denigrate his contribution to Palace and I, like most other supporters, will always remember him fondly in years to come, and have some great memories of him, but, more so than ever, we should not be looking to him as some kind of talisman.

Not sure you can put Eze and Olise in the same bracket as Wilf, but it keeps happening.

We have some crazy good talent now, zaha can either join in and lead by example or he can sulk, thinking he Is better... it's down to him...

This was once a quality forum....

Dare I say it, he's bored. Many seasons ago it was exciting being the focal point of the team. Now he's having to accept his career hasn't progressed in the way he thinks it should.

Kane is in that position at the moment.
