Hear me out, really interesting article in the Athletic today, about him struggling to find a club. Yes, the usual questions will be there about fitness. But, a year contract/ or even pay per play? Could he do a job, especially as we seem to be lacking something creative/ CG can't play every game or be expected to create everything.

Cant see an issue with inviting him down to train with us for a couple of weeks to see what he has

Clyne did that before signing

But then again, the fact that nobody is interested might be a sign

It's tempting however he was released by Bournemouth at the end of last season so what does that say about him?

If he could recreate his Arsenal form great but I think that he has declined where he can't even do it in the Championship.

I think he said a few disparaging words towards West Ham when leaving the club which I found tacky considering that they gave him the escape from arsenal and put him on hefty wages (£100k+/wk) with little to no return on investment. Chickens come home to roost therefore springs to mind.

I think he needs to consider a relatively easier lifestyle and consider the Portuguese league, Belgian, Scottish or otherwise MLS.

He's clearly stolen for a living the last couple of years so he needs to face reality that he's not gonna be on big wages anymore and to get regular football for the next 5 years (he's 29 yo) then it would have to be at a lower tier than he probably thinks he deserves.

Regarding Palace, if we were to go down the Jack Wilshere route, then we could/should only ever offer him a basic (eg 10k/wk) 1-yr contract with pay as you play incentives (might even be better to pay him by the minute TBH), but again I don't think he will ever get to his Arsenal playing days best nor be injury free for a sustained period, so he'd only be taking a spot from an academy youngster

May get a dozen games from him on a pay-by-play basis. Worth a punt as long as he fancies it.

On a very low basic with incentives for appearances and achievements then he would be worth a punt.

I do have concerns about his attitude but then again I don't know enough about him and possible axes he may have to grind to make a proper judgement.

World class at one time - not sure how much of that class is still there.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

He was at Bournemouth. They saw what he had and don't think it's what they need in the championship. It is incredible how far he fell. And sad.

Well, once upon a time Yannick Bolasie was sold by Bristol City for peanuts and Damien Delaney was flat out released for nothing by Ipswich. What does that say about them? Meanwhile, we paid money for Florian Marange. What does that say about us?

Clubs make mistakes evaluating players. Fact. Other times, a player just doesn't fit into a club's system. Fact.

Wilshere may or may not be right for us, but the point you make is meaningless. If anyone knows what he can offer, Vieira will. I trust his judgment.

Marange was a free transfer, so doesn’t say that much about us evidently

The last few times I’ve seen him play, he slows the play down, like puncheon used to, pirouetting on the ball, when there’s a break on, letting the opposition defenders get back.
Think he lacks pace now and even if he has great vision etc, we need a team where everyone puts a shift in.
Get him in to train, but wouldn’t expect us to pay him to play.
