The EU does not just service the needs of Germany and France! It is very much more than that. If you think we are in a stronger position to negotiate anything outside the EU, then I think you are living in a dream world. There is strength in numbers.

Immigration, both legal and illegal, would be an issue whether inside or out. Dealing with it on our own though is very much harder. We will always be a preferred destination because of our language.

We depend on imported food, much of it from the EU and that's not likely to change. It is though already getting more expensive.

Renewable energy is also something that is needed, whether inside, or out. The question is where it is better managed. Once again, there is strength in size.

You are an at any cost Europhile.

Britain will only survive the future if it takes advantage of its island status. The EU is heading towards a federal government. That is the inevitable goal.
We must control our own borders in the future. The world's displaced will be at our gates, and we must close them or perish.

That is so full of sh*t that you must have brown eyes!

Our island status brings us nothing in today's world. It's no longer a moat around our medieval castle, which enables us to raise the drawbridge to repel invaders. It just adds transportation costs.

The EU is not, never has been and never will, be heading to a federal government. That truly is the "Project Fear" of the Eurosceptic. Some members may draw closer, but not the entire EU, and that would definitely have included us. The EU cannot force it, and we would never agree.

Why are we a preferred destination because of our language? Using that logic genuine refugees from Arab speaking countries would seek a safe haven in Arabic speaking countries/ Muslim in Muslim. Many coming over the Channel are from French speaking Africa but choose not to stay in France….fact. Gatwick getting many Spanish speaking Panamanians, who transit through Spain but choose to come to the UK.
Whether we have been in or out of the EU,the French have done little to stop cross Channel illegal immigration…fact. We are still giving them £m’s to stop the flow, they have no will to do so….fact

I think the ultimate destination for many economic migrants is the USA. Rightly or wrongly, they seem to think the UK is a convenient stepping stone on which they can improve their language skills, gain some work experience and move on to golden dawns in the west.

The French, especially in the north, are notoriously perfidious!

Still hard to see how the countries who are currently not net contributors will be able to pay more.

More likely they will do less.

And you know that for a fact do you? Who is full of s***?
It is inevitable if the EU continues. Look at what has happened since we joined.

There is definitely an advantage to being an island, and it is called the sea. A big blue wobbly thing.
It will keep most people out if that is our desire.

My eyes are as blue as an azure sea around a coral island.

It could only happen by agreement! Can you seriously imagine any UK government agreeing? There is no appetite here for it, even among the most enthusiastic EU supporter. The sea is, and never really has been, an effective barrier. If it was, we would have found the way to stop the illegals by now. The legals arrive by air, in the main.

I bet your eyes are in danger of succumbing to that rising tide of internal excrement.

Will have to agree to disagree with your first paragraph, I’m afraid

The sea has been an effective barrier for thousands of years. Those that have come here have been in small numbers and mostly with force. The last twenty years has changed all that, with successive governments following an insane policy of mass immigration. When a future government realizes that it's time to pull up the draw bridge, we will have an advantage over the rest of Europe. Illegals could be stopped easily if we wanted it badly enough. We clearly don't.

Enough of your Lefty nonsense.

No UK government has had a policy of "mass" immigration. That is just a myth perpetrated by people like you. There is a problem with illegal immigration and a policy of controlled immigration where skill shortages exist.

That you think the first could be easily stopped is naive. If it was easy, it would be, as it would be very popular.

That you think the second is unnecessary, and to stop it would give us an advantage in some way, is way beyond naive. It's dangerously stupid. Unless and until we ramp up our education and training provision, which would take massive investment and decades to be fruitful, we are going to need skilled people.

Do you realise how complicated and expensive it is to obtain a visa to come here? Working visas are usually managed by the employer, but still need work and significant cost. Family visas are a nightmare and cost many thousands. Don't for a moment think we make it easy. It's a funny way to organise a mass immigration policy.

And your evidence for this assertion is?
