Good to see Ofcom has said that Piers Morgan had every right to express his opinion that Meghan Markle lied about feeling suicidal during the infamous Winfrey interview.

Will ITV apologise to Morgan I wonder? I know he's a bit Marmite, but, considering the Sussex's seemingly told half a dozen fibs during their interview, I side with him.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

ITV remain unapologetic and are spinning it their way.

The head must be under pressure for caving to Meghan but worse the viewing figures are down go woke go broke.

I highly doubt it.

As it's ITV themselves who were under investigation, and not Morgan, an apology to him is not required. They are entitled to their position on the standards expected from their presenters. It's ITV who have been cleared, not Morgan.

The determination was only about whether Ofcom's code was broken. You can read it, unfiltered by the right wing press, here:-

He'll definitely be back on TV within a few months. Expect a stint in the jungle or similar followed by fronting his own show. Wrist slaps or not he can command a mainstream audience.

Some people think private companies can employ who they want and so can sack who they want. Actually that isn't true, they have to abide by several criteria within their employment practices.

Someone who believes in libertarianism would know that because they would be instinctively against it.

Not sure if this is geared towards me. I don't hold the view that Piers Morgan should've been fired in the first place.

Yes, I realise it was ITV who were the subject of review. But it was their CEO who pushed Morgan to apologise to Markle, which, quite rightly, he refused to do and which is why he decided to walk out.

It would be reasonable for ITV to apologise to Morgan as the Ofcom finding saw no reason why he should not express his own point of view.

He was right and they were wrong.

Nope, not aimed at you. From what I've read your views on free speech seem to be similar to mine.

More of a general point.

I have to say I wasn't even aware that Piers Morgan was under investigation by Ofcom for his Markle meltdown.

I absolutely agree he had a right to disbelieve her and Harry's comments on their royal treatment, however I think it was apparent to many that the man has a personal vendetta against MM and was becoming a bit vindictive and obsessive on his reporting on the matter.

Given shows like Good Morning Britain probably want to be able to have access to royals (and their acolytes) would it be wise to have such an individual on staff?

Then there's the point about mental health. Again, Morgan can disbelieve her claims on her treatment from other senior royals til the cows come home but to shoot down statements about her own mental health was an incredibly bad look.

Pretty much. I have little time for her really and think he should say what he wants, but the origins of it all are quite amusing. She basically went for a meal with him and he found her beyond enchanting, but ever since she hasn't had much to do with him, so she's wounded his fragile ego.

They possibly have more in common than either realise really. They've both been successful due to a persona that likely has little in common with the person underneath.
