Extremism is, like beauty, in the eye of the beholder. No extremist ever thinks they are one. I have heard countless people who hold views the average person undoubtedly regard as extreme, describe themselves as "moderate". Though the "fish and chip" analogy is new. Might work! Sour (vinegar), greasy and wrapped up in yesterday's Daily Mail. Sounds about right.

Hrolf is far more of a curmudgeon at a loose end, than anything approaching extreme! He bangs the same drum a lot and in my view doesn't see past the obvious contradictions of his outlook, but I'm not envisaging him passing down views that corrupt minds or spirits, or trawling the dark web for a fringe fix. I'm sure he prefers a cuppa like the rest of us normies, as the world keeps on turning.

You do talk some crap.

'trawling the dark web'? What the bloody hell are you talking about? Stop inventing little fantasies about people you disagree with and if you're going to engaged then debate the points.

Oh yeah, I remember how well you did when you actually debated.....It ended with all you having being empathy arguments to defend the politics that has worsened pretty much every social statistic in the land.

Then this.....what I can only describe as bitterness....every opportunity you get trying to poison the well, putting out what are in affect lies and focusing away from the arguments and onto anything you can demonise.

I was making a point about the fact that Wisbech had suggested someone was an extremist. I stated the type of behaviour an extremist inevitably engages in and why that is certainly in my view very unlikely to describe someone like Hrolf.

Where I encounter views that are within the parameters vaguely approaching understood norms (as in not either dead arguments or those so far removed from the average mind that there is little point even engaging with them) I am often more than happy to debate.

I regard that as disingenuous as you have used this 'dark web' waffle in relation to me in the past.

Regardless, I tire of this.

We're talking about actual extremist activity here, not some big mouth who either hasn't used the dark web or might pop on there to buy a Mark Collett body suit to climb into if he's feeling a bit restless. Levels.

Funnily enough, shocking as it might be I don't think anyone on this site is an extremest. That was kind of the point of my contribution.

It's certainly on the rise as those who continue to work from home realise there is no compelling need to be in a big city. It is though still very much cheaper than the SE.

I live here, so know the locals and local places which the tourists don't find.

I was visiting people who live there so I know those places......property in Cornwall is expensive but that will suit you as yur proprty value is rising....all good for you??

I know you find yourself amusing, but it really is just you.
Your tired old attempt to marginalize mainstream opinions fools no one, except fools.

I think it is inevitable that you become frustrated with some aspects of life as you get older. It rather goes with the territory. As far as my personal circumstances are concerned, I'm very happy, so I'm not really a curmudgeon in the classic sense. As for being at a loose end, well I do have the time on my hands that being retired allows. That is just how I like it.

As for any contradictions in my views. You are welcome to tell us what they are. Good luck with that.

Tring to claim extremism is an old tactic of the Left, and Wisbech is clearly a Lefty in denial, among other things. What he thinks is of little consequence to me.

I moved, within a 5 mile radius, this year and as I have no intention of doing so again, let alone away from Cornwall, it's not going to affect me. Other than impact the supply of affordable housing for those who need it, who in turn provide the support services we all need. So not really good for anyone, other than property speculators.

Fair enough. I never imagined him plotting the overthrow of government. More that his views are well outside the mainstream.

I wonder, though, whether he would prefer being regarded as a curmudgeon with time on his hands, than as an extremist?

I expect we will find out.

You think mainstream opinion is what is served up by the media. You are stupid enough to think that their output is representative of how the majority feel.

This is probably why so many Leftists were in total shock when the Tories won by a landslide and broke through the so called red wall.

Leftists are blinded by their own self righteousness, and you are a prime example.

As if I care about your opinions of me. You are an internet nobody, only there for my amusement. Believe that if you believe anything.

That the media influence mainstream opinion is obvious. It's influence on you being an example. As most of the printed media is right leaning, that's the direction it goes. The Mail, Express and Sun being the leading culprits.

What constitutes a majority depends on the issue. The 2019 GE was unique in that it brought together a set of unparalleled circumstances. Which I won't attempt to detail in full but primarily consisted of Brexit fatigue, a slick marketing man running a campaign and an opposition in disarray, led by a wholly unsuitable, personally ambitious, scumbag who was abandoned by the traditional Labour voter.

2019 was not so much a triumph for the Tories as a disaster for our Parliament and the country. Parliament failed to do what it is elected by us to do. Which is not to give us what we want, but to give us what we need. It being their job to determine what that need is.

That view is neither right, nor left. It is the very essence of our Parliamentary, representative, democracy.

It is you, and those who think as you do, and not me, who are blinded by their own prejudices and yes, self-righteousness, and unable to come to terms with basic truths.

I do care what you think. I care about what everyone who has a vote thinks and will go on, to my last day, arguing for truth, honesty, morality and responsibility from those we choose to lead us.

For we should elect leaders and not followers. We desperately need a new generation of leaders to emerge who can inspire and lead us away from the path we are currently sliding down.
