Incredible win,she play's the Canadian Fernandez in the final.

Fernandez is also very good,c'mon Emma, south London girl, one of our own.

Not according to some on here she’s not. Apparently not even British.

Amazing achievement, been incredible all tournament. Big chance of actually winning it now too.

Was wondering about her unusual surname ….it’s Romanian..she was born in Canada to a Romanian father and Chinese mother.

I'm not sure if you are suggesting she is not really British, but she has lived in the UK since she was two and was schooled in Bromley, England, so , I would say she is very British.

This is very different from previous sports people who have converted nationality at a later stage through residency. Greg Rusedski, Joanna Konta, Zola Budd, Alan Lamb, Graeme Hick, Kevin Pietersen and others grew up in their country of birth and were all older, and some already well established in their chosen sport, when they qualified as British.

Brilliant achievement. Straight sets win. Gonna be a great final with two teenagers slugging it out.

Oh, and she's definitely British as Pete53 says. Haven't heard heard anyone question whether Zaha, Eze or Rak-Sakyi aren't Brits.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

British, yes. English, no, as a lot of people honest and proud of their ancestral heritage would also agree. It’s just the David Lammy types trying to stir up nonsense who disagree.

Good luck to the girl. Fantastic achievement. Impossible now in male tennis to do this so young and unexpectedly, but still possible for females. Shame this is on when I’m asleep.

Good east European culture to work hard and succeed, driven by her parents who are immigrants to the UK.

In years to come, when Emma is regarded as the greatest British sportsperson who ever lived, I will proudly reminisce that I was the first person to post about her on HOL (4 July 2021, Wimbledon thread).

Maybe you should start your one thread again about how Europe is being flooded with men.

If this transpires I expect you'll get a namecheck from her when she is a guest on Desert Island Discs at some distant future time, as the person who gave her the self-belief needed to succeed.

i must admit that Emma Raducanu is a very likable girl. And i wish her every success.

but i do wonder whether the BBC are wetting themselves with enthusiasm for her achievements. It seems to be way beyond any cheerleading for Andy Murray or Tim Henman.

being Female AND ethnic, Emma scores two out of three for media PC box-ticking.

now whether Emma can get the hat trick of soccer pundit Alex Scott ? we will wait and see. ( HAT TRICK = female, and ethnic, and LGBT )

don't ya just love Sky/BBC ?

the self-belief came from her Romanian father, she gets her indefatigability from her Chinese mother, that's what makes her so proud to be English (not just British) as well as coming from Bromley

i bet the BBC will steadfastly emphasise her British nature over any English nature.

wouldn't it be hilarious if Emma's Romanian/Chinese background gives her a streak of christian Conservative Family Values & mistrust of the taxman-State.

The BBC seem to hate Tyson Fury.
