Hard to say he flourished without seeing Eze under another manager - I'd argue Eze is so talented he would've made an impact whoever was in charge.

I certainly remember plenty of games last year where Eze played as an auxiliary left back and had no meaningful contributions in an attacking sense.

Can't say I noticed Eze at left back.
He has many strengths, but tackling isn't one of them, and he did manage to bang in a few goals.

Said -- most diplomatically-- that Roy drilled him to show great defensive discipline but Benitez doesn't want him defending at all.

His mum sent him a video montage of his highlights to remind him of his talents.

It was actually poignant to hear. It made me feel he regretted his time with us in some respects, although he said no such thing. And made me also think what a caged bird Wilf has been for so long.

It would be nice if we could continue attacking and giving Wilf a final chance to shine as the curtain slowly starts to come down on his career.

It's clear. Townsend's mum was a better coach than Roy

When Townsend joined us, he was selected for England, by Hodgson, ahead of Zaha who was completely shut out. After, 4 years of Royball everyone thought he was wash up and failed.

A good gauge of a Managers ability is how well the team/players do after the manager leaves. Palace are playing better, Townsend is playing better. Liverpool, West Brom, and England also improved after he left.

As for "not having the resources" he was offerred Gallagher and selected Batshuayi.

That's nonsense, Eze flourished under Roy.

It's not nonsense if you read what I said properly... I didn't say Eze was poor under Roy did I??... I said he would of ended up the same under Roy, as in the same as Zaha and Townsend did.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Of course that's utter baloney.
Naturally Palace are playing better , they have better players now.
They've spent more money in a month, than Roy had to spend in all the time he was at Palace.
And as I mentioned previously, without Roy managing our very under par squad, we would currently be in the Championship or worse.

Zaha started scoring goals, like he never did before Roy arrived .

PV himself said when interviewed after the game Saturday that Roy laid the solid defensive foundations from which he has been able to build from. Said we would not be this far forward in our transition if not for the work Roy had done. We dont have tens of millions to build a solid defence/midfield. We had to look for bargains and drill them while making even our attacking players disciplined when it comes to defensive duties.
Townsend does score the odd belter but does not do it anywhere near enough. Thats not just at Palace, thats everywhere he has been.
Olise and Eze's wages combined dont match what we were paying Townsend so for financial reasons alone I'm glad he has gone. Was a good player for Palace but not getting any younger and was a high earner that the club needed to kick into touch.

Agree, the Roy haters just refuse to let it go or give the man any credit.

He was hardly a goal scoring machine under Roy was he? I think one season he scored 4?? Wilf in any side will weigh in with between 5-10 goals a season due to his natural ability and that was roughly his numbers every season with RH in charge.

To try and suggest he flourished under Roy is to funny. The Wilf we saw on Saturday was the real Wilf. One we haven't seen for a long time. I think his post match comments sum up his frustrations on our style of football over the last few years.

It's not about hating on Roy. I've clearly given him credit in my earlier post. It seems that the Roy lovers just refuse to admit that the 'football' under Roy was just awful.

"one season he scored four", what are you talking about ?
You clearly need to do a bit of research.

Roy lovers ?
Roy appreciaters I would say.
An honest, but on the whole, not really Premier League quality squad.
Practically zero money to spend.
And times when we were hit incredibly hard by injuries.
But under Roy, amazingly, we never even flirted with relegation.

When a team gets at them I can see Everton struggling a little. They will get found out on the counter attack and have yet to face a top team. I'm pleased for AT who always has a worldy in him but he will not be allowed the space as the season progresses and will fall foul of the Everton fans if he goes missing for them as he did for us last year. Still a cracking goal.
