But Brexit is very influential on the refugee problem. We have lost our voice in the EU and we are therefore unable to change future policies there. In relation to international organised crime, which is what fuels most of the people trafficking across the channel, our exit from Europol which was not even necessary post-Brexit has robbed us of valuable intelligence. It’s quite possible that the criminals presently have better cross border cooperation and coordination than the UK has. There is no need to talk down Brexit it does all its own work in that direction. We are all waiting for a single benefit to be identified, nothing is forthcoming yet.
Responsibility Deficit Disorder is a medical condition. Symptoms include inability to be corrected when wrong, false sense of superiority, desire to share personal info no else cares about, general hubris. It's a medical issue rather than pure arrogance. |

They were more than happy to allow the migrant numbers build up on their side, as they knew that the racist UK was the desired destination. Was happening long before Brexit

As an EU partner France was more than co-operative, in fact it had to pay for the operation, which it sees as a UK border and ex-colonial UK issue using their own country as a conduit. And even now they are working to make the crossings safer. France has an enviable record on asylum taking 4 times as many as the UK and has been widely praised for its prompt humanitarian airlift from Afghanistan. The UK never thought any of its brexit issues through and its daily round of failures are simply its own fault. Anyone could see that brexit would increase immigration as is proving to be the case.

Edited by DanH (16 Sep 2021 11.10am) Many don't, and still don't. But the same could be said of remain. Many remain voters who said this couldn't name their MEP or even explain how the EU functioned. The biggest issue we had was that UKIP held our biggest voting block and they had no interest in doing anything positive with that vote. The rest of the major parties couldn't get their act together and encourage people to turn up an vote. In contrast, the German's held the biggest single political party block, which meant they had MEP's in every department and committee working to serve their own best interest. Reluctantly, the whole thing is a bit of a s***show. MEP's are always going to be self serving with no real remit. We were never going to reform it and never going to take European elections seriously. Leaving was an unnecessary risk, but if we keep a close alignment with a bit of room for flexibility (ie that vaccine contracts) then we might realise that opportunity that being out is better than being in. Having a land boarder with the EU might eventually give us a stronger negotiating position than being in the EU. Project fear hasn't really happened as much as many predicted. If anything big business no longer have access to cheap labour which is driving up wages whilst house prices have slowed down. The thing to do now isn't to go on about rejoining, but try and shape it into an opportunity.
