Reminded me of a holiday in the canaries, standing on balcony at about 7pm, a whole load of gorgeous totty, about 20 in total, walked past the hotel, all white jeans and nice tops, sandals, dresses, all about 19 or 20. I was studying them and wondered where they were off to, and guessed right, in to "pacha" , the bar frequented by Dutch and Germans. At the same time, a screaming mass of overweight rabble came up the road, all guts hanging out, shorts and trainers, and wearing lots of t shirts, with bj jane and 69 sarah on, singing something like- "we"re the girls and we are here, blowing clocks and drinking beer!" Did make me wonder how did it come to this?

I bet you were! Low-cut tops viewed from an overlooking balcony...

The government would have to get rid of The Sporting Events (Control of Alcohol) Act which makes it a criminal offence to drink alcohol in view of the pitch.... Which I can't see them doing to be honest!!

That must apply to only football then?

You'll then have to deal with people going to and from their seat all game to get more beers.

It's not that bad if it's standing, but generally, it will start pissing people off.

The other main issue would be policing. They like people to stay in roughly the same place, rather than have them move around all the time.

Can't see it happening for at least 10 more years.

Watching football in Japan you can sit in your seat and drink beer all afternoon. Every so often a young person with a large backpack will come by and offer to top up your glass (plastic) via a hose. If you are feeling hungry you can easily obtain a very good bento box (packed meal). All this with constant singing and very strong support.

It does indeed mate... Introduced in 1985 if my memory is right in an attempt to combat hooliganism

All cricket grounds are seated, and most major rugby stadiums likewise, and the spectators actually remain seated while watching the game.
All major football grounds are all seaters, but of course many of the fans ignore the regulations, and stand up all the time, for that reason alone they will never allow supporters to drink alcohol while watching a game.
Apart from the fact that rugby and cricket fans behave more maturely, you can see spectators at the Oval for example drinking all day, but there is rarely any trouble, imagine letting some football fans drink all during the game.

When was the last major aggro in a ground? It is just not justifiable to treat football fans differently to fans of other sports anymore.

To my mind, the only real risk these days is fans lobbing plastic pints of beer. Just stick some nets up.

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.

Given concerns about Covid, would it not be better to allow this practice in English stadia? If desperate, put some nets up to stop fans lobbing plastic beer glasses onto the pitch.

I really don't wanna stand or sit in a confined space with people breathing all over me anyway. Let alone at the moment.

Can't enter a match if you don't show proof of a jab to show you are healthy, but allowed to drink a beer... eat fast food and get stressed out... makes sense.

I have to say that I’d stop going if this was allowed to happen.
I’m there to watch football, not to have beer showered all over me by some tw*t showing his mates what a funny guy he is. We all know the type, go to any gig or festival and enjoy that experience. No thanks !
