I understand exactly how you feel HK, watching the country go down the pan, pubs shutting early, take aways having no chicken, does put a wry smile on my face, knowing those people who would partake in those institutions are the ones most responsible for their demise!

This is the very same government that gave you the ability to earn a fortune, buy houses, rent them out and virtually retire at 50 odd years old. Without chasing you for your wealth which corbyn and labour would and will do if they get power. A bit of irony in many of your posts when that's put in as a factor.

Change the tax laws for corporations by all means.

If there is a wealth tax your assets would be taxed three times, on salary, wealth and inheritance.

That can't be right, crack down on the Panama Papers brigade, start with virtue signalling hypocrite Lineker.

Labour think tank proposing abolishing the council tax and replacing it with a tax based on 0.5% of the current value of your home.

Somehow I don't think this is a vote winner, for the average person it means doubling what you pay now. I'm not bothered about the super rich paying more but it will really hit middle England and especially the south.

If Starmer adopts this as a policy the Tories are guaranteed to get in.

CP, I don't see the country going down the pan but some of the measures taken to fight the pandemic have been in hindsight plain silly. Talking of hindsight, have yet to see any opposition MP come up with alternatives to the strategy. It's easy to bleat but but if no alternative idea then they should STFU.

The measures in UK pale compared to what we have here now.

Masks are compulsory almost everywhere, you can remove in a pub or restaurant once seated but for example, if you are in a buffet you must wear the mask when you go to get food.

F and B staff have to be vaccinated and tested once a week.

Depending on what hours the venue wants to open, if a late to 2 am they can only have vaccinated customers after midnight.

Recently a pub was checked and had one unvaccinated customer, they were punished by having to close at 6 pm for the next 14 days.

If you fail to scan your tracking and trace QR code entering a place you will be fined £500 , no debate.

TBH, no one here minds wearing a mask, we have had the nightmare of SARS before. Regardless of what politically motivated non maskers say, some protection is better than nothing. Also people have have a culture of wearing masks because of pollution or if they have a cold.

The issue here that is most frustrating is even if you are double jabbed, if you travel outside HK when you return you are forced to do 14/21 days quarantine in Govt sanctioned hotel which is very expensive and in limited supply.

This is unlikely to change until possibly the end of March so the many people who wanted to spend Xmas in UK are fooked, as are families with kids studying in UK.

I was hoping to be back from mid December, now looks more like March.

At least we can meet up now to watch Palace 3pm games, but when the clocks change we're screwed as games will finish 1am here and pubs will close at midnight.

No exactly about Starmer but hey ho

Some of the same gov mate, we had 12 years of labour in my money grafting days to, but this is the same gov that ruined my job-the pm, chancellor and London mayor(bojo). All water under the bridge, but has to be said!

It certainly doesn"t fill me with optimism, this bunch of keystone cops, or play fair keir, to scared to attack them and play dirty! I might never vote again for a main party- just one of those fringe parties that might have one agenda you believe in, but have no chance of getting in.

Labour and Lib Dems both now in conference time are spending lots of time and bandwidth on how to deal with members and MP's who don't give in to the aggressive trans lobby. This may well become an additional millstone around Labour's neck with the ongoing anti semitism of Burgon and the JC acolytes.

The Rosie Duffield case as an example.

The Greens have some good ideas on the environment but for me much of their other policy basket is student politics.

With all that we have a govt that made some baffling cabinet appointments but at least now things seem to be improving on that front with exit of Hancock and Williamson and the moving of Raab.

Am quite happy having the ineffectual Starmer in charge.

Oh yes, just for a visit.

I like Xmas in the UK, Palace games squashed together over end December and early January.

Only chance I get to wear my Del Boy sheepskin.

We have moved STs from Arthur to Upper Holmesdale and looking forward to using those for the first time.
