Underpaid in what way. When you accept a job you accept the wages offered. If its not enough, don't take the job. That's nothing about colour. Many health workers are not white British and personally I don't give a damn as long as they treat me when needed. Real racists would demand a white nurse or doctor wouldn't they?

Also blacks are classed as one demographic, If you split them up, you'll see the majority who achieve in school, go to university and are In skilled jobs tend to have African names where as black British and Caribbean boys are up there with white working class males as having the poorest results in school.

So Indians, Chinese and Africans who all tend to come from fairly religious backgrounds that celebrate strong traditional family values and views where they have a two parent household tend to do better hmmmm I wonder why that could be

I think you mean West African, not East Africa like Somalia etc.

I used to think the same, only there will always be people in these jobs, and often mid to long term, that are underpaid and unable to live on the wages so it isn’t really a valid point. Sure you can try and live on £20 food per week, but there’s still people who’d do that and still be piling on debt. But that’s a different debate.

The idea that it would stablize or reverse needs to have a realistic explanation.

pretty soon every high-street in England will look like Thornton Heath or Luton.

There’s a few burkas appearing in Croydon suburbs now, including Caterham.

I think people are pretty welcoming, from what I see with my own eyes anyway, maybe not if you watch the news, like I said, racism is an emotive subject, news and tabloids use it as nothing more than clickbait, trying to create an issue that's not really there. Most people on this board will be from Croydon or surrounding areas, you couldn't get a more diverse area, we have all probably worked in massively diverse workplaces I've never came across any issues, everyone gets on regardless. Probably every ethnic minority I've worked with has encountered racist abuse but this country is not systemically racist.

So which one is it?

As a nation we have excellent values, both historically and in the present day. Some people want to slander our past, but in reality we've always been ahead of most of the the world in terms of equal opportunities, tolerance, and equality.

Christianity does have some real positive welcoming values too. When people mention that we are a white christian country, they are often saying it when they are talking about excluding people from our country because they don't think people from different backgrounds can fit in. That view is country to Christian beliefs, said by people who aren't Christian.

Fact is, that if you are a successful, progressive society, then people will want to come to your country. If you want people to stop wanting to come here, the only real way is to become a regressive state. This isn't to say we shouldn't have controls on allowing people to enter the country - although those entry conditions should be down to ability, and not race or religion.

On top of that, you've pretty much listed all of the developed world as places people go to.... where else would you expect them to go?

Eastern Europe to benefit from the advances made during nearly a century of socialism?

Caterham, surely not?You better not say anything to them Rudi, some can speak english! My mate and I got in a lift, he was inside for 4 years and I had watched that barlinnie programme the nite before, I said to him, "would you go to barlinnie right now, for a year, for £100 grand? The burka clad lady looked at him for an answer, he said, "barlinnie is a prison in scotland". She said "oooooooooooohhhhh, you dont need to tell me where barlinnie is mate, im from Glassssgow! " Made us crack up, and just goes to show, never judge a book etc etc.

I don't disagree. This was more a general point about being rewarded and appreciated for your work, and I'd say it extends well beyond race into various ceilings that exist for all ordinary, working class people. I was highlighting that the profession isn't always some kind of jewel in the crown job to begin with, when compared to jobs with serious power and pay packets (jobs for mates territory).

It's a pattern in society, where those that are the necessary glue of the day to day, just get a hand clap or people banging pots and pans together, but it actually comes to making sure they are paid well enough to get by in day to day life the cheerleading is in short supply.

Getting called the odd name hardly has that big of an effect on your life and prevents anyone doing anything. Actually as an ethnic minority in this country you're at an advantage now.
