Sorry, I didn't know he hasn't worthy of sympathy because he was paid well.

I have a family member with a serious knee injury and I can honestly say that if you offered her the choice of a healthy knee or 2.5 million pounds, she would pick the healthy knee.

Regardless of how much he was paid, he's a footballer, he wants to play football, not be injured every 5 minutes.

You seem to miss the point. He isn't crippled by his injury, just can't play professional football, as you need to be in peak physical condition and very fit. He can lead a perfectly normal life, the £12.5m he was paid during his time at Palace helps.
He has been extremely lucky to have had the opportunity to earn that sort of money. I would prefer to feel sympathy for our soldiers, who have lost limbs in combat, they would rather continue being a soldier. Instead they are left to struggle through life, without the riches that Wickham has.

Hear hear painter. Wickham comes from a military family and I am sure he would echo that sentiment.

The fact that others have it worse in life doesn't disqualify Wickham from sympathy, surely?

The impact on a person of having every boys dream given to them by one hand and taken away by the other seems notably cruel to me. Correctly or otherwise, Wickham was touted as an England centre forward when he was a teenager, and for the rest of his days he'll wonder what he could have achieved if not for circumstances entirely beyond his control. Perhaps most of us would happily swap with him, but none of his peers would in a million years.

This boy's dream of being a professional footballer was shattered at approximately the age of 7-9 years old when it was obvious I was not even good enough to make the primary school team.
Can I get an outpouring of sympathy my way people?
Or maybe a whip round to compensate me adequately for not having a successful Premier League career?

No, because you won't miss what you knew from early on you were never going to have.

Wickham is a different story.

I'm certainly not promoting an outpouring of anything, but personally I feel a little bit sorry for the bloke.

Yes of course he is allowed to receive some sympathy, but it feels a bit OTT.

To play at all in the prem he's already in the top 0.01%. Yes he could have achieved more, but lets be honest how many other players never fulfilled their early potential. The difference is where a lot of them might have moved around the leagues, he has been unbelievably lucky to spend all of his career on a prem wage, whilst contributing very little.

So yeah, its a bit annoying for him. But given the state of the world at the minute I struggle to fee anything for someone whos only problem is that they cant play top level sport...

People develop at different speeds. You should have stuck with it.

Tony Book didn't play league football until he was 29. Signed for Man City at 31 and played for them for nearly a decade.

Perhaps it isn't too late for Tonymikejoe. After all, who can forget fan-in-a-shirt Jordan Mutch. Chase your dream Tonymikejoe, chase your dream.

The latest from PNE is the hamstring injury may be so bad they are considering removing Wickham from their 25-man squad.
He will be seeing a specialist and they fear he may well be out until 2022.
Wickham probably knows more about medicine than the doctors by now.
Should probably consider it as a career.
