If you seriously think Ayew is hopeless you need your head examined.

I thought he was tremendous against West Ham the other week.

So did I. In fact all 11 were superb. And the subs. Ayew does a good job but all being well we will have jumped up a bit when all the players are fit which will give PV alternative options. But Ayew is a loyal servant to the club and I have big respect for him. He rally works at it.

Doesn't matter what I think or what anybody else on here thinks about Ayew.

PV obviously sees something in his performances to warrant him being selected.

For the record though I think he has done pretty good job for us.

Some people think football is a matter of life and death. I don't like that attitude. I can assure them it is much more serious than that.

He's a better centre forward than wide player and another looking past his best. But he dug us out big time season before last when Benteke's performances were nothing short of pathetic and for that he has my respect.

For a player to be fouled as much as he is informs us nicely that opposition players don't like him.

He is still in the top ten most fouled.

Ayew hasn't played as a centre-forward since he was our main striker a couple of years back when Benteke went essentially AWOL and Ayew got his player of the season award.

The only time I can recall him playing CF in recent times was in a pre-season game when he replaced whoever started the friendly as CF and promptly scored. He relished the opportunity.

I would like to see how Ayew would function as the CF in a PV team should Edouard not be available to start. Benteke has hardly hit the ground running in that role this season.

Says who? Certainly not PV, who's stated he's been impressed with CB's performances.

Benteke has done ok. He does some of the dirty work, but it doens help that he doesn't score, or often look like scoring or put a shift in.

Assuming Olise becomes the RW of choice at some point this season it will be interesting to see how/where Ayew plays.

Assuming Eze is played in the 10 role, he is likely to be him and Ayew battling for that spot.

But to all the Ayew haters, we need to remember that whilst Olise might be amazing, he is still a kid with a few mins of prem experience. In a game like tonight Ayew has to start. You need mature players that know thejob they need to do. Plus a good run from Ayew set up the JPM goal last season

Yes, totally agree, i think he is a decent CF, but when Schlupp, Eze and Olise are match fit he wont get in the team

He's very good at keeping the ball but I do think that he is guilty of getting his head down and not always looking up for passes that are on. The main problem as I see it is that he rarely crosses (either because he can't or won't) and seems to have little power in his shots, meaning he doesn't really offer enough in terms of goals or assists. He always puts a shift in, but if we are going to progress we need our forward players to offer more and currently of the front three only Zaha is really producing the goods. Thankfully we have options waiting in the wings (excuse the pun).

Crikey, I think I find myself agreeing with most of what you're saying here.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.
