yes but that automation itself needs people to create that automated system. I've been in certain areas of IT all of my life and there has never, ever been so much work around all over Europe and it's growing every year. Automation frees humans to do other things, such as innovate and innovation improves lives and creates the next level of employment. That's always been the case.

There will need to be several hundred million jobs as innovators and system creators.

Nope, after drivers who are retiring, 'brexit' is the main cause as shown in the graph:

France, Spain and Germany are facing a potential shortfall of 400,000 drivers between them. The US are facing an unprecedented shortage as well. Brexit again?

No empty shelves, massive queues, shut down gas stations or collapsing energy companies in any of these EU countries unlike the UK. They can rely on the free movement of people and goods across the EU to manage any shortfalls they have. They also have no need to endlessly debate about issuing 'visas' just to get truck drivers.

The link I posted above clearly shows 'brexit' as the key factor in the shortfall in the UK.

Enjoy your turkeys from France this Christmas, nothing to do with brexit? Lol

Energy companies have collapsed because their business model was like an addict in a casino.
Must have max profit, then they ran out of chips. Should hmg bail them out? It was obvious that wholesale gas was going to rise. Like a mortgage a fixed rate is only temporary. The you hope variable is at least equal. These companies chose badly and the rate was higher.
Would it be fairer for them to be saved and the price for customers would increase anyway. Either way it was going up.

Just pointing out the short termism in the UK economy, continually going boom and bust, no long term investment or planning. Where are the numerous energy companies collapsing in continental Europe? Where are the queues at gas stations in continental Europe? Where are the food shortages in continental Europe? I'm regularly traveling between 4 European countries and have seen none of these, life pretty much as normal except some mask wearing and some vaccine certificate checks. Not a single person I have met has even mentioned anything about any shortage of anything whatsoever.

I haven't read anywhere why the companies haven't trained any drivers in the last 5 years when brexit got voted.

Then in 21 September he is blaming CO2 shortages, needs to make his mind up.
Serious question if the freedom of movement across Europe makes it easier to employ lorry drivers, why is there such a shortfall everywhere?

If it turns out there is a shortage of turkeys, or anything else, it seems a fair exchange for migrant workers not being exploited in minimum wage jobs by fat cat business owners , wouldn’t you say?

Companies need to be at the cutting edge to ensure a competitive economy.

A competitive economy will create more jobs.

Failure to automate killed our manufacturing industry.

Having driven across the country this weekend, the petrol crisis seems to have been purely brought on due to the media and stupid customers. Go at the right time and there's empty stations and empty queues.

The long term need for HGV drivers in reducing. In less than 10 years the sale of new petrol vehicles will be illegal. HS2 will free up capacity on the existing rail network for freight - where much more can be used with much less staff.

This article from Bloomberg this morning seems to think it's not just a UK problem. Bit worrying that part of the problem is "too little wind" over the Summer months.

And Bloomberg is hardly a sensationalist tabloid.

Failure to plan is a plan for failure.

I am annoyed that the government did not push the big companies on this, but they (government and corporations) had plenty of time but sat back and did very little.

So is this or isn't this to do with Brexit?

Because you seem to be arguing it's nothing to do with Brexit, whilst claiming the lack of migrant workers providing cheap labour (ie. Brexit) is the cause.
