I deliberately left out the Etonian reference. I think her comments were not aimed solely at the cabinet but that's open to interpretation. The cabinet is very diverse in gender and ethnicity. The comments were not specifically at Johnson, only in hindsight to a degree. Rayner's " I will apologise if he does for comments 20 years ago " is genuinely childish and ridiculous but it's what she thinks. Starmer was very weak when quizzed about this on the Andrew Marr show. Cleverly response is concise. This is the same Rayner who didn't say anything to criticise the anti semitism in Corbyn's labour when it suited her, to be fair neither did Starmer. Fingers crossed more of the same during the Conference, there are still a good number of attendees who are Corbynistas and don't accept the results of the EHRC report.

At the ballot box for one, however, I very much doubt he will make it to the next election as the Tory party will through him under the bus when they feel it is necessary and expedient. It's an indication of how far Labour and indeed our society has fallen when someone like Rayner can be deputy leader of the opposition. This is how Labour appeal to the kind of people who are thick enough to believe that she is one of them and that her carefully scripted speech is from the heart. She is a gutter politician.
