I thought Ayew had a reasonable game aside from the miss, but as a forward player that's ultimately what he'll be judged on. Most of his passes seemed to go sideways as well. It'll be interesting to see how long PV sticks with him if his attacking output doesn't improve. Bentenke and Kouyate were both benched after looking like weak links. PV seems like he'll give people chances and then it is down to them to take those chances.

Brighton had resorted to throwing balls up to their big men so I can kind of see why Bentenke was brought on. He is after all very good at defending corners (I think he cleared at least one) and we looked very short in comparison to Brighton's ugly giants. My god that man looks like he hasn't got the energy to run 20 feet without having a rest though. Edouard showed more pace and energy in 70 minutes than Tekkers has shown in his Palace career. I very much doubt he'll get back into the side for Leicester.

I've never intruded into other posters' disagreements before and I doubt I ever will again. But for heaven's sake, if a fans' forum isn't at least partly to allow fans to criticise the manager or players, then there seems little point in at all. But when someone does that on here, there are almost always people wishing to attack them with sarcastic remarks, of which there have been a couple in this thread.

I'll now creep back into my hole, but please can't we all be tolerant of others' views?

Ayew; there is no position for Ayew, we don't play a Number 10, he cant play wide, doesn't have the pace and doesn't score enough goals as CF, no goals or assists in 20 matches, why Olise or Schlupp didn't come on sooner i don't understand.

Benteke; he clearly wont score enough goals, it will be our last chance to get some money back, he will have 18 months left and his contract wont be renewed. Edouard should have an extended run now to see what he can do, and Mateta as the substitute, so he can be properly assessed, also Street is going to be a very good CF

Your frustration could make you look very silly.

Posters need to be aware of making themselves look very stupid and posters who moan immediately after an excellent performance need to keep away for their own sake, individual mistakes will always happen in football, we all need to think how our keeper felt last night instead of behaving like morons.

Why because i have an opinion, that's all it is, like everybody else's, What summed Benteke up to me is we have a corner, Gallagher passes short to keep it in the corner, but sadly Benteke's first touch put it straight out of play,

Finding a forward who can perform consistently in this league is the Holy Grail for every football club. Budgetary limits means, unless we can grow our own like Wilf, we have to take a gamble on the unproven, unknown or unloved. Sorloth, Mateta, Edouard ? the search goes on. Ayew pissed me off last night when he missed and CB is a constant frustration but they are what we have. Hopefully Olise and Edouard can climb up the pecking order. Or failing that perhaps Textor has a few million stashed down the back of his sofa that he wouldnt mind spending on a proven striker.

So Benteke came on and did his job for the last 15 did he and the other 10 on the pitch sat back??... Literally hilarious.

He came on and did absolutely nothing. He provided no presence and didn't hold the ball up because as usual his touch let him down...
In a way I can live with that but what I can't live with is laziness... He was bone idle and disinterested when he came on.

Other then set up what should of been a goal. Grow up

it's hardly behaving like a moron to call out and want to bleat about two blinding failures in a game against our biggest rivals, is it? Yeah the performance was excellent in places, but we can still rue Ayew's miss and Guaita's miss-placed kick. That's human nature.

Oh yes... He played a simple pass that I could of played, all is forgiven... He was amazing...

I'm not gonna congratulate a player for playing a simple pass... In the words of Roy Keane 'That's his job'..

Have been a big Benteke fan on HOL, but got to say he had an absolute shocker when he came on last night.

We needed to defend from the front and was not mobile enough to challenge for possession. The Weed defenders were breezing past him without him putting up any resistance. He had a couple of misguided headers which went nowhere near Palace players. He had that farcical short corner which held up for less than a second and he must have given ball away at least 5 times. Other than the ball to Ayew, which let’s be honest was a basic pass for a pro, he had a negative impact on the team. He’s dangerous when we cross the ball but we don’t do that. Expected more from a man trying to get his place back in the team.

Re Ayew, we all know his limitations. He’s a useful squad player but will soon be replaced by Olise/Eze. Good dribbler but doesn’t add much else. His miss wasn’t as bad as people are making out, he still had the keeper to beat who was well positioned.

Might have missed it, but haven't seen anyone else make this point Goal Machine, although I think you're right about still having the keeper to beat. I was furious with him, but it wasn't as straightforward a chance as some choose to believe.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

You're like a broken record.

I think most agree that Ayew is playing out of position. The Manager is selecting him because he thinks he's currently the best man for the job. Olise only recently returned from injury and is unproven at this level. PV is breaking him in gently - I realise from reading your posts that this is a concept that you find difficult to grasp.

As for Benteke, look at it this way. We spent big on Edouard. We potentially have spent big on Mateta, although I doubt we will see him signed permanently. We don't have unlimited funds. So re-signing Benteke made absolute sense.

Edouard started last night and looks set to get a run in the team. Mateta is assessed, as are all the players, on a daily basis. If he's not getting game time there is a reason for it. As for Rob Street, I think he's a big, bustling grafter but I don't think he's even remotely close to a first team spot. And I'll go on record now and say that I don't think he'll make it at Palace although I hope I'm proven wrong.

I suspect that PV has identified RB as a weak link in his plans. Ayew does a lot of work to help Ward, which at this time Olise will not do. Yes he missed a sitter and I said at the time, “that was the game”.
